Omniman spark plug mod... does it work?
I was watching the Omniman B16 project DVD and one of the guys started modifying a spark plug by shortening the spark thingy and cutting 2 'V'-shaped gaps into it.
Can anyone tell me if this really work or is it bull****? The guy in the vid said it would gain a few HP in the high end, because the spark was stronger/longer.

Personally? I think it's bull. A properly gapped plug with a normal funtioning ignition system will ignite the mixture just fine. Do you get a louder bang from a firecracker by lighting it with a torch instead of a match?
i'd say rocket will say other wise....personally i run them, but really don't "feel" the difference....maybe there is 1 or more hp increase....i don't know...
it is not bull, Rocket sells them and has dynos of the power it has made...
Its a very old cheap trick to squeeze extra power out...it helps focus the spark in one strong path...most people are to lazy to do it so they spend big bucks on already made ones...

Guess you havent seen the dyno's, The plugs make more power. Btw, your analogy sucks.

lol maybe the analogy doesn't work, but I laughed.

We used to J gap the plugs back in the day. It was worth a few, in the blown alky engines I helped with, as said. J gap means we filed the ground electrode to be shorter, and 1/2 way across the center electrode.
thats exactly what robert does. and it works but it all matters to the extent of mods done to the car. I you index and (j gap the plugs) on a stock civic you most likly will see 1 hp but you will see 1 hp from soo many different variables. now on a fully built car like big moose is talking about yes it will help, its all relative to how much you are losing with a conventinal set-up on you conventional or not so conventional engine set-up. Opening up a spark plug gap will make more power but if the spark is not strong enough to jump from the center electoid to the ground electroid its pointless and wont help. I know iam blabbing on and got off topic so what its the internet.
