Default Front hub/rotor/bearing set-up on 1997 Accord

Can the hub/rotor set up on a 97 be changed over to a '98 or later?
To change the rotor, you have to pull the hub assembly, which pulls off the outer race of the very expensive bearing. I just did this 6 months ago and need to pull the rotor again. This is the only year model that has the rotor behind the hub assembly. Gosh, wonder why?
thanx in advance

I don't know about the 98+ year Accords but you can switch to Acura CL parts and convert to rotor-over-hub. Read this for more information.

But if you don't want to convert, you should be able to just remove the hub/rotor/bearing assembly from the knuckle without removing the hub from the bearing. Here's a quick step-by-step.

With the car on the ground, loosen the axle nut.
Lift and support the car.
Remove the tire.
Remove the axle nut.
Have someone hold the brakes and loosen the four bolts holding the rotor to the hub.
Remove the caliper and zip tie it out of the way.
Remove the caliper bracket.
Remove the cotter pin from the lower ball joint castle nut.
Remove the castle nut.
Hit the lower control arm where the ball joint goes into it. This will pop it free.
Remove the axle from the hub.
Remove the four bolts holding the bearing onto the hub.
If the hub/rotor/bearing assembly doesn't drop away from the knuckle try hitting the rotor with a hammer to try freeing it.
If this doesn't work, I would recommend removing the knuckle from the car and take it to a machine shop and have them press everything apart and put everything back together.
If it drops away, remove the four bolts that hold the rotor to the hub that you loosened earlier.
Then slip the rotor over the bearing.

Then just reassemble everything in reverse order.

Click here for a good write-up with pictures. Same steps apply if you want to convert to rotor-over-hub.

Hope this helped.

Also, welcome to Honda-Tech.

WOW! I've finally found an auto info website that actually works! Thanks for the great info.
Now, does anyone know where I can find a Ford F-150 website like this?.

haha, glad I could help.

I looked all over trying to find some similar site when my girls Jimmy had a couple problems. I ended up signing up on a site called AutomotiveForums.com They were able to help me with the couple problems I had with her car. They have forums for just about every make and model. Maybe try looking over there for some assistance with your F-150, don't know if they have what your looking for or not.

My '91 accord's rotors are a pian to change, is there a different setup that will work for my car? I don't wanna mess with my rear drums, but I like the convenience of demountable rotors. Something where all I have to do is unbolt the caliper would be great.

I HATE THAT I HAVE TO HAVE BEARINGS PRESSED OUT TO CHANGE BREAKS. WORST IDEA EVER BY HONDA.
