Default Getting started in SFWD

I want to get started in the sfwd class and i know that i must have a legal chassy to compete. The local shop around my way charges 5500 for a 6point custom cage with parachute (that I provide), does that sound reasonable? Is there a shop on the east coast that can build me a sfwd chassy for less?

First state Moto(DE/PA), Kens Kustom chassis(PA) and Drummond racing(MD) just to name few. Dan from 1st state Moto is 93Lsivic on here so, PM him. He is a stand up guy and will probably be doing my cage eventually.

If you're a do it yourselfer, http://www.swracecars.com is in PA. Price is very good, but you'll need to install it yourself and more than likely modify it here and there.

Good luck with your CHASSIS.

all you need is just a basic drag cage, you can get a bolt on cage for 650 bucks, you don't need the parachute yet until you reach 150mph or in the 9s, I wouldn't spend that much for a cage yet, wait until you reach low 10s, spend the extra money on the motor, tranny and good axles first parachute you can add the parachute later like my car.

dont go back there again.. shops around me charge ~100 buck a point. so u figure 6pt cage ~ 600 bucks. i wouldn't worry too much about a parchute since your just starting out, unless u plan on jumping out with 150+ traps and some 9's your first time out.

....5,500$ is crazy. if you want a parachute because
your gonna trap 150 and be goin 9's your gonna need more points on your cage. i recommend NRG-TECH on long island. BigTom can do anything from mild to wild. They did my cage in my hatch with a chute and it came out nuts.
check out there website@ NRGTECHRACING.COM or call them@(631)243-6NRG and leave a message if they don't pick up.

Where in the Northeast are you located? If you're in Central/Western NY I know a shop that'll take care of you for a good price. You'll want to get in soon though before all the tube chassis cars start showing up there.

You know I am a do it yourself kind of guy, and im currently in welding school. I can weld pretty good but I don’t have access to a tig machine, and the rules say that you must tig weld crom molly.

Well the reason I wanted to get a parachute was because the car already trapped 127mph on low boost at 2600lbs so I figured the car has atleast a mid 10 pass on full boost and gutted to the sfwd limit. So I wanted to have everything ready at once, because I never know I might go 150mph.

You must tig cromoly, but if you get mild steel you can mig it. I got the mine for $139 (some special, but reg. $169) with $70 shipping. Check it out.

https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1268061

Ok, now I was all hell bent on getting cromolly and all that, but the cost vs. the weight savings didn't seem to make sense for a street car. I never located actual numbers, but a chassis shop told me approx. 30 pounds would the difference between the two.
I think my above link explains how I feel about what I got. Good luck.
