I have searched all the archives and am still not sure which one is best for me. My car grinds sometimes going into 5th usually if im driving alittle fast. And to put the car into 1st I have to put it into 2nd and then 1st and the overall feel of the tranny is alittle notchy. The car has 119k on it and I have had it for around 20k and never changed the fluid. Which would you go with considering everything I said? And once u go with GM syncromesh can you go back to regular Honda or red line fluid?
synchromesh all the way, you can get pennzoil synchro fluid, they are the ones that make it for GM, and its only 4 dollars a bottle, gm is 15+ from a dealer.
you can go back and forth from gm to synchro, but I dont see why you would, I have never had a problem with mine. Ive had both GM and Pennzoil fluid in my car and they are the exact same.

From: united states of mexico and yes ladies i am, available
i have only used redline and i love it no problems and i have been pretty rough on it but i get it for $4 a bottle from work
i have the same exact problem. 1st doesnt want to go in half the time, and 5th grinds. ive found if i wait a sec. to put it in 5th it helps. gm synchromesh was recommended to me by a very knowledgeable mechanic
id go with that

I've read up on this, and put Honda MTF in my tranny, and here's the truth as I see it:
GM Synchromesh is good ONLY if your tranny is already fucked up. Otherwise it is not necessary and might not preserve your tranny the way MTF will.
Redline feels great and only lasts for about a month. Don't use it.
I put MTF in mine and from then on, I no longer have to shift into second before shifting into first at a stop. Everything feels smoother.
Verdict: Use Honda MTF unless you need to mask a serious problem, them use GM.

the brand of oil you use isnt going to make a difference in how your tranny shifts. the viscosity of the oil makes a little difference, but the biggest thing is what condition your trannys in. obviously if you take it up to 5k and ram it into second each time you shift your going to have problems and your tranny wont last long. also, you shouldnt downshift into first gear when your going any faster than like 10 mph. unless you double clutch it to get the clutch disk up to speed.

i lov the syncromesh, i was having exactly the same problems you are and as soon as i put in the penzoil syncromesh it was like magic. tranny shifts like its brand new again.

For now im gona put in some Hond MTF wait a month or 2 to see if it feels any different. If not i'll try some of the gm syncromesh. Can you switch back to Honda MTF if you put GM stuff in there?
