Default DIY : Gs-R to civic seat swap

K, I know this is pretty low on the difficulty scale but no one had any pics up and the Helm's pics were slightly confusing so I thought I'd post up my experiences....

By the way, this particular swap is Gs-R to EJ8 (sedan).

Tools needed:
12mm
14mm
screwdriver or long flat tool
carpet shampooer

I just bought 2 seats that look brand new, had no smell on them or anything. As soon as i started shampooing them all hell broke loose. All this red crap came up like someone got shot in these seats . Then they started to smell like someone was using chewing tobacco and just spit it on the seats.

its x10 easier to do when its out of the car so just do it then.

Step 1:
-There are four 12mm bolts that bolt your old seats to the car.

K, so once those are out you have to swap rails. It LOOKS like the rails are the same but the door side is about an inch too short on the Gs-R seats.

Step 2:

There are 2 14mm bolts on the bottom of each side.

On the Door side of the driver's seat, you'll have to get off the two adjustment *****, which is a bitch. For the first ****, come up from underneath and try to hit the pin out that holds it with a screwdriver or some other flat object. It is lightly highlighted in silver. The second clip was harder because it couldnt be seen from the bottom, so you'll have to wedge a pair of pliers in there and hit the clip with something else. As i said, pain in the ***.

Now that the ***** can be pulled out, the side panel can be taken off. Pull the seat lever out and the panel should slide out

Step 3:
Now to the seat backing. There is one 12mm on the seatbelt buckle side and 2 14mm on the door side. You'll have to reach inbetween the bottom and back cushion to find the zipper (or in the civic seat's case, its held in place by a clip). Unzip them and roll the seat skin up to help expose the 2 14mm bolts on the door side.

Once that's done the rails should come off and you should be left with 2 seat cushions not linked together.

Just reverse steps 2 & 3

One small issue i came up with was that I couldnt use the driver's side panel because of the 2 holes for the *****.

I decided that I didnt want black and silver mixed on the panels so i swapped the seat belts too. Both door-side panels will only be held up by a screw but there isnt really any stress placed on those things anyways.

In this pic i swapped the Gs-r seat belt but kept the civic plastic panel. I just spray painted over it on both seats.

And the end result....

a lot more comfortable and snug than the civic seats and they're not ***-pinchingly tight on the bottom end. They do ride a little bit higher though but its nothing a little reclining cant fix.

it was wierd too because those seats looked MINT when i got them, i turned the steam cleaner on and *blamo* i had some wierd sludge-blood-tobacco mix that never ended. I shampooed the passenger seat for an hour and still didnt get all of it. I'm going to try to get the rest tomorrow though.

....I'll sell you the water. It'll add 5 hp when you add it to your radiator. It's going for the low low price of $5! yes thats right, thats $5. $1 per HP that you gain! act now!

I didnt spring for leather because im in cali. Its 100 in the summer and 30 in the winter. I hate getting in a car and being hot or cold for extended periods while my seats adapt. Plus you slip like Rok said. I feel the same about gray as you do about these seats. I hate gray. So ******* drab & boring at the same time.

is this an EK or an EG civic? DC2 seats a perfect fit into EG, and they bolt up perfectly into the EK par the inside rear mount, nothing a 16 gauge self tapper wont hold down.

you should do a write up on shampooing seats.

haha, it pretty much is.

Ya all the bolts would have lined up except the inside rear. Since people in Sacramento drive like dumb asshats I wanted that extra bolt down in case I'm headed for the nearest windshield .

Best seat pattern ever, but could have gotten a better color. The black with blue insides look AWESOME.

Wouldn't it be Civic to GS-R seat swap? I came in here wondering why someone would trade off GS-R seats for Civic but looking through the pictures I see it was the other way around. Misleading title, but other than that love those seats. My LS seats in my EG were bomb as shtt!
