Default cant get off rusted bolts..

i live in washington state, and i never deal with rusts and stuff like that.. but today i needed to change my cat because theres about 175k on it, and theres alot of resistance when pressing on the gas. anyways when i went down there, there was 3 14 mm bolts, i took off the 1 of them, which was rusted, but the other 2 wouldnt budge. i sprayed tons of wd-40 and still cant get it off. i wound up stripping the 2 other bolts.

so how can i fix it? i asked a mechanic and he said its better off to saw it off, and a air gun wouldnt do much good cause the bolts are almost round.

thanks

Heat them.

Craftsman makes a thing called 'Bolt out' or something...

I've drilled out bolts!

Food for thought anyhow..

get some muscle

This happened to me too when i when putting my exhaust on. I just stayed under the car muscling my way thru with the biggest baddest tools I had... eventually i got it off when I did my war chant and screamed at the top of my lungs while trying to loosen the bolts...

the best thing to do would be to just cut it off with an acetylene torch... there are small ones you can buy at tractor supply co... or a ace hardware store like that... they are only like $60 and good to have around

Spray some PB Blaster on the bolt and let it sit for a while. It works better than wd40. Then try a vice grip.

this is ghetto but it should work.. use a hammel and a sharp edged chizel and make a divet on the bolt, then angle the chizel and hamer in the direction of loosening the bolt. Slow but surely, the bolt will move and give way, but you'll need new bolts anyhow...

There is another good lubricant that some sunoco gas stations sell. We call it "Kroil Oil" at work but I can't remember its official name. I think it has the word "kroil" on it and it is petroleum based.

LOL it sounded like me when i only had a 6 inch wrench and i had to change my tranny fluid, the war chants work really good.

uhhh what i would do is get a drill with a small enuff bit drill a hole in the top of the bolt and use a top and die and reverse thread the hole, screw another bolt in the reverse thread(which would b slackening the rusted bolt) and it should come right out. if not u could always drill the bolt thru completely and re-thread the hole later

If you ever need to get out a rusted or stripped bolt just drill it out using a bit that is slightly larger than the bolt shaft, since you managed to get out of the bolts out this shouldn't be difficult. (Just make sure you get a titanium or cobalt tipped drill bit they are only like$8-10). Just drill the head of the bolt until it falls off, then you use a pry bar between the cat and the chassis and it will pop off pretty easily. now that the pressure is off the bolts you just get some vice grips and they should twist right out. I did this to the phillips heads bolts that held my old discs in. Good Luck.

i'd have to agree with the war chants. the last time i did that, i used a vice grip and clamped the living hell out of it (stripped bolts and all) and twisted until i could feel my eyes starting to pop out. hehe! works, almost everytime! of course, there was one time i actually broke one of the fasteners for the back seat of a friend's civic.

When I had to put on my cat-back had the same problem. Took it to my uncles shop and he heated them bolts up till they are red hot. Came right off after that
