First clutch/flywheel install - PICS OF DAMAGE - WHAT HAPPENN??
This was my first install for a new Spec clutch/pressure plate and ACT flywheel into a jdm d15B vtec. And after a couple miles of driving I noticed a ticking sound.
I would only here this sound when the clutch was fully depressed. WTF happens when the clutch is pushed in to make this noise and cause this damage in the pics???

You can see 2 of the 3 little clips broke.

Seriously.
Did you install the throwout bearing right? Sometimes this damage is caused from over travel on the pressure plate.

I'm not sure how hard it is to install the throw-out bearing wrong. But, it seems like I could change gears fine with the pedal NOT fully depressed and I wouldn't hear any noises coming from the tranny. But, I also verified the clutch pedal adjustements per Helms and everything was within spec.

It's pretty difficult to get it wrong on 5th gen+. You don't necessarily need to depress the clutch pedal to the floor to shift smoothly, but it sure seems that either the pressure plate was over stroked, or was just crap to begin with.

I'll second that. Spec are known to be junk, I have had great results/longevity with act, exedy and action.

my friend was tryin to sell me on spec a few months ago. he had no problems with his but he also has a pretty much stock gsr. i always had good luck with oem replacement clutch's. they work great for most n/a cars, unless the motor is seriously built.
Well I took everything off and inspected the flywheel. The flywheel has a "hot" spot were the clutch meets the flywheel. It looks like a blemish. And I can see a spot on the clutch were the same thing happened. I've already sent everything out for replacement.
The TO bearing can only be installed one way into the realease fork. It's pretty simple. I know when you install a new clutch your suppose to adjust the clutch. And I believe it will have a shorter pedal stroke. I'm thinking I didn't do that and the TO bearing pressed to hard againist the pressure plate causing damage. Can anyone confirm this as a possibility from expeirince???

i've heard mustang people put the disc in backwards and it wont engage. doesnt damage it tho. i guess its fairly common with mustang owners cuz a couple people i know did.
