Default Brake system upgrade.!?

Well as the title states I am looking to upgrade my brake system. I am currently using the stock (S) calipers and rotors. I have read some on upgrades here but have seen some important details. What year of Legends and Vigors do I look for? And what models is it all of them. Are these a direct bolt on? What all parts do I need besides the calipers and rotors? Are there any other vehicles I can get the parts from besides (a VTEC 4th gen)? What is the most cost efficient aftermarket kit? Thanks for your help.

calipers should be from a 94 GS legend or an NSX. not sure about the vigor calipers.

with the right sized rotors the calipers should be a direct fit. you will also need the caliper bracket from the donor car.

i THINK the hydraulics should all be the same, but am not 100% sure.

the cheapest kit is the AEM kit that includes a new rotor and a new bracket for your stock caliper. not really a BBK...i think the fastbrakes kit is around $1400?

It appears the 94 Legend GS is 5 lug! Does that mean that I am supposed to do a 5 lug conversion also. I really dont want to do that! Are you sure its the 94?

Does anyone know of a 4 lug brake upgrade? Any info would be great

Thanks

best bet is to upgrade the whole hub from a vtec prelude

unless you want more looks or willing to spend that much on brakes, its more cost efficent to get some good blank rotors and some good brake pads

btw all said conversions above have abs which your s doesn't, i dunno if that matters either

You use 92-96 VTEC rotors and the 94 Legend GS calipers and brackets

i can always go to the local junkyard and for about 300 bux, get the front two hub/knuckle assemblies

Why do you need better brakes? Looks or are you road racing or autocrossing your car that you need them? Just get better pads and blank rotors. Drilled or slotted rotors are retarded and actually give you less brake area and are more aggressive on your pads. Go with pads and ss lines or go with a real setup like some Wilwoods.

Just upgrade to vtec rotors and caliper brakets. The increase in rotor size increases the brake torque by 11%. It doesn't sound like much but it makes a world of difference compared to the stock s/si brakes. The legend and nsx calipers don't have as much clamping force as the ludes calipers. BTW, all 4g and 5g prelude calipers are the same as are all the si 3g's.

HAHAHAHAHA!! You've got to be kidding me!!! You are trying to tell me that you run your brakes so hard on the streetZ that you warp rotors and don't have stopping power. HAHAHAHA. Sounds like you are trying to sell yourself the brake upgrade. Shyt, give me a car with stock brakes and I will show you that they still work perfectly fine on a track. You are warping your rotors while on your way to the grocery store? LOL

BOTTOMLINE!!! If you don't track your car, you DO NOT need upgraded brake calipers. Oooooor, you can admit you are a ricer and that you just want to "upgrade" your brakes so you can tell people and make your sig look prettier. It's one or the other.

Point well taken above, and I don't mean to hijack this thread, but I have a 92 Prelude S non-vtec, with stock brakes. I'm swapping in an H22 next year, so I want to upgrade to VTEC Prelude brakes too. So are you saying that I can use my existing calipers, get VTEC rotors, and just get the VTEC caliper brackets??

Thanks for the help!

no you need vtec calipers/rotors/pads/etc, but it is all bolt on with no modification

as for the warping rotors........sounds like you might not know proper care

a puddle of water could warp your rotors, washing your car right after driving could also warp them, etc

lol i go road racing and still didn't mess up my stock 94 SI brakes (i just use brembo blanks + ebc green stuff)

but for next track day i'm prolly gonna go hawk hp+'s :bigthumb:

meh, if you're gonna go with a track pad, i'd step up to something with a little more ***** like the cobalt friction spec vr's or carbotech xp9's.

as far as upgrading brakes go, there probably isn't a need for it on the street, but with all that extra hp from the euro r swap, i can understand the desire to upgrade them.

Ok, thanks for clarifying. My stock brakes work fine for autocrossing at the moment, since I'm running with the crappy F22a1 engine. When I do the swap though, I figured I'd go ahead and upgrade.......after all, there's a reason they put bigger brakes on the VTEC models.

I heard that the Green stuff pads fade really bad after a little track usage?

If you warped two sets of rotors then you must buy some shitty rotors cause I've yet to warp a set and I run axxis metal masters and those aren't really too aggressive and still have the same rotors for the past 3 years. My car get severely beat on also. Nuff said. Next topic please. What else do you want to do for just looks?

simply put, EBC brake pads aren't fit to stop a tree.

I am running well over 200 horsies and yes I DO STREET RACE and ROAD RACE and SIDEWALK RACE if the occasion calls for it!!!! BEING SARCASTIC

I will tell you what when your runnin 120mph tryin too keep that lead (or regretably sometimes catch up to someone) and someone happens to pull on from a side street or a parking lot or something, YOU HAVE TO BE ABLE to stop quickly!
Or when your runnin 110 up to a corner and what to keep that speed up AS LONG as possible before slowing for a corner YOU HAVE TO TRUST YOUR BRAKES.

I dont trust mine! I have warped 2 sets!
Shitty rotors? MAYBE!
Shitty pads? Its possible!
Shitty driver? Its possible - Wanna Race?

I am not looking for looks. (junkyard upgrade is what i am looking for)

Thank you

I have about 10 local (50 mile radious) salvage yards, AND NONE HAVE A 4TH GEN LUDE!

I have looked and called and looked again!

Thanks for the info though

A fellow HT member just offered me a complete VTEC 4th gen Hub assembly set. I may pick them up.

i was kinda on your side with this whole break upgrade thing but now, i'm gonna have to tell you to use a tree or a streetlight instead of perfectly good brake equipment.

people like yourself need to take it to the ******* track. racing anyone anywhere is code for "i am a selfish dumbass."

next time you're street racing and that minivan full of kids pulls out in front of you, i hope you have the reactions and skills to be able to steer out of the way and only hurt yourself with your "200 hp!" and your "mad street racing skills". I'm positive that you're a shitty driver and wouldn't know an apex from your *******.

Well, hopefully he's doing this street racing late at night when there are no mini-vans full of kids around.......but still, it sounds pretty dumb to me. It's not like it would just mean a ticket or a sus pended license.......you can do jail time for street racing. All that money spent on upgraded brakes would seem like a real waste when you're stuck in the clink.

And just so you know, when you're on a forum like this where people know their **** about cars, you aren't going to win any battles trying to prove to everyone that illegal street racing is cool. The only people who think it's cool are the little ricer kiddies that had their first Honda bought for them by their equally stupid, disfunctional parents. It's not cool. You're stupid.

By the way, I have to trust my brakes when I'm coming to a stop from any speed.....because in case you haven't noticed, brakes are the only thing that stop any car......not just you cool street racers.

So I may be wrong, please correct me, but EuroR92Lude... you said u can't find any 4th gens in any local junkyards... well, I think if you could find a 5th gen, its the same stuff. someone stop me if I'm wrong, I just didnt want u to be overlooking what your looking for!

I was gonna do the upgrade a while back b/c I needed new brakes but I dont race and dont really drive too hard so I said fuggit and took my extra $ to get some extra food!

I wasn't being totally serious!! I was just trying to make a point. Dont think that I am just out there driving like a dumbass racing aynone that will whenever they will. I have street raced! But not just whenever and whoever I only race when the situation was SAFE!

And I do use the tracks for my SERIOUS racing.

Thanks
