Main bearing clearences.
I just started throwing together my LSV. Everything is going to be brand new. Crank was micro polished all that good stuff. Im running ACL std bearings and ran into a lil clearence problem.
Cap clearences
#1 2 thou
#2 1 thou
#3 15 thou
#4 1 thou
#5 2 thou
In the helms the std is .0009-.0017 for caps 1-2-4-5 and 2 thou is the service limit. So Im on the border for #s 1 and 5.
#3 cap has a .0012-.0017 So im sittin in the middle there witch is good.
Im asking this on the All motor forum cuz I want to know what you guys like to run. Im happy with the other numbers from 2-3-4. I want to run a lil tight cuz I heard thats way to go for NA. But those 2 thous scare me. I can go to Honda tomorrow and pick up some brown bearings if they have them in stock. Brown is thicker to bring the clearences closer I believe.
Right now as it sits I have everything torqued down to specs and the cranks spins like butter. I have never felt a crank spin so freely and nice before.
Thanks for your time and knowledge.
Matt

Err forgot to say, Im checking with green plasta gauge.
I bought the motor from a kid...from what it sounded like, he ran this motor pretty hard. I figured it would be fine since I bored out the block and had everything cleaned.

I like everything towards 0.0020"--the 0.001" is tight for a high-rpm motor. All of my mains are from 0.0016" to 0.0020"--oil pressure at idle (when motor is warmed up) is around 50 lbs. Motor runs fantastic.
Ok, well.....it looks like Im going to leave 1-3-5 alone and get thinner bearings to run a larger clearence for 2 and 4 witch are at 1 thou.
Now, my next problem....I went to order some new bearings from HondaAutomotive parts online and I got confued as hell. I know I need to get a bearing one size thinner. The lettering on my block was CBBBB.
What it came out to be is
#1 B3 = Green
#2 B3 = Green
#3 B2 = Yellow
#4 B3 = Green
#5 C3 = Brown
Im not unerstanding why my readings are so loose and then so tight if the ACLs are supposed to Green. Yes everything is nice and clean. Brake cleaned everything and blew it off with the air hose.
Back to the ordering of the bearings....I went to http://www.hondaautomotivepart...ISTON
I dont know what bearing to order. They list by letters but that doesnt do me any good. They list the same bearing twice also with two different part numbers.
18452 020 BRG B, MAIN (LOWER)
18453 020 BRG B, MAIN (LOWER)
What do they mean by Bearing B? Should they have numbers with it also. Cuz with the bearing chart, bearing B can mean Pink, Yellow, Green, Brown.
I prolly got you guys confused as hell on what Im trying to explain, its just I have so much info running through my head right now. Hope this is somewhat understandable.
Thanks guys
Matt

There are two different bearing manufacturers-so Honda differentiates between them by the suffix 003 or 004, depending. Same bearing. It can get confusing.

I know I need to go a color thinner for journals 2 and 4 witch would be Yellow, but on that online Honda site, there are no listings for color. So how would I go about ordering the thinner bearing for my situation? Thats what Im tryin to figure out.
Thanks for all the help.

Red-Pink-Yellow-Green-Brown-Black-Blue. Thinnest to thickest. If you want to go one step looser than yellow, you need pink. Dealership parts guy can look it up for you.
I know I need to go a color thinner on 2 and 4, its running greens now but its to tight, so I need Yellows.
Haha, my parts guys dont know anything over at my Honda dealership. I had to show him the rear main seal, I basicly looked it up for him on the computer.
Just trying to figure out what bearing on the Honda online store I need to order that resembles a yellow bearing. Any one know?

try to keep 1, 5 bit tight and 3 loose ... 2,4 moderately tight.
with plastigage you better be check with 70-80 degree room temperature.

I know hondaautomotiveparts.com is confusing with the bearing codes--since they don't list them by colors. Here is how it breaks down (thanks to Earl!!)
A=Blue thickest
B=Black
C=Brown
D=Green
E=Yellow
F=Pink
G=Red thinnest
Hope this helps, Jay.
