I'm very tired so I am going to make my post short. Dropped the oil pan to have a look today. Changed oil and filter. Took the valve cover over to look things over. Found a hairline crack in one of my camshaft lobes. A lot of wear for cams these new too. Going to look at the rocker arm pads this week.

They are OEM cams that are cold welded and regrinded to my specs. My only guess is the company that did the work for me didnt do the process right

That's probably the case. Go to the Weld/fab forum w/ this and see what some of them have to say. Sorry to see that.

Didnt know what to expect. This was my first set of regrinded camshafts. Wanted something, specs, more than Crower's and a company offered me cold welded and regrinded cams to my specs.

Not his fault it's the person who did the work. I've used regrinds w/ no problems. Although, I feel that OE cams are good for 99.9% of us.

Were they "hard-face welded"? Do the cracks go over the edge and down the side of the lobe to the base metal? I've worked with alot of welded cams since 1991. Have had a few do the same as yours. Good news, it never came off. Usually repaired at no charge.

Jim. Let me get some higher resolution pictures. That's the only camera I had earlier today. It's a Mini-DV video camera.

The first picture is of another camshaft lobe. Saw this while rotating the camshafts.

Mine have over 10k miles on them, and still look good as new
John, as I said in the thread on the other forum, Just contact the manufacturer and see what can be done for you... Im sure if you show him these pictures everything will be taken care of... Hope it all works out for you... If not, just remember what I said about the JB Weld
lol

The HardFace weld I've used is about .030-.050" thick, minimum. Hard to tell, but from your photos it "looks" that it may be thin. The pic w/ the worn edge somewhat supports this observation. Also, I'm assuming the lobe is not running off the leading/trailing edges of the rocker.
I'd let your guy know about it. Sometimes things happen and we all need the opportunity to check it out.

You are right. It's thin. I would have got better pictures but it was getting late. I'm going to look some other things over today. Still waiting to hear back from the company.

I'm not going to be keeping the cams. I'm in contact with the vendor and we are trying to work something out. Will see.

Update: The vendor here I bought the camshafts from is not with the company any more. It will be a couple more days now that I have to contact someone else at this company. Sucks because he was the only one I spoke with at the company.
