Default Just had the Clutch/flywheel replaced

The damn tranny is a bitch to get out.........took about 10 hours...........for the entire replacement.

There are 4 12pt 10mm bolts that hold the pressure plate........
I traveled to Autozone, NAPA, and Advance Auto Parts to find the socket - no one had it.........
They said they had to order everything - so finally, I found someone with a set of 12pt sockets.

Problems after problems after problems .........working on the top section - you know, everything we took out to get to the tranny. Anyway, it'll be done within an hour or so........

A Stage 3 - 6 puck ceramic clutch was put in along with a 8lb Fidanza flywheel........i wonder how it'll drive.......hmmm........

Damn! I didn't know we had to use 10w40 for the tranny fluid.........i was kinda skeptical about it at first - but the computer said 2.1 quarts of 10w30/40.........oh well.........

Do yourself a favor and either use Honda MTF or GM/Penzoil synchromesh. Your tranny will thank you.

Damn - the oil is already in. I'll replace it though here in a bit. Not today though - i'll buy the fluid and replace it.

Any problems with using the 10 40? I used a NAPA brand also.

No problems with it, but Honda MTF just works better (which is why newer Hondas use MTF instead of 10w40)

I have no idea - he was putting in the bolts from the top and he dropped one. I was pissed, so I just left.

I'm going to go back later today and get it done. I'll post back later tonight. I'm going to drive it around town for a while to get a feel for it. It should make a hell of a difference though.

I changed the tranny out on my SH once. Never again. Pulling the motor is 10 TIMES easier than removing just the tranny. Screw that.

Man - we tried a magnet.

We went fishing and everything - couldn't find it. So we turned the half shaft and we heard it fall. So we definately have to take off the bell housing again. We'll start here in a minute - i'll keep updating it.

For beginners - thinking about working on trannys : Air Tools are your FRIENDS!

Ok well its in now. It drives very well. I have a few problems though.

1: the speedometer doesn't work. Yes the sensor is plugged in.

2: the vtec doesn't work. Its 11:17 at night so i can't really check too much - and yes the sensors are plugged in.

I'm thinking it has something to do with the hondata. Since we had to disconnect the battery (don't think it should reset the ecu though).....I just came to work to pick up the laptop. I'm also throwing a code - i'll check it here in a bit when i get the laptop plugged in. Anyway, it runs very well. Hasn't stalled on me yet - i think i'm a pro already - haven't even driven 5 miles yet. But i'm going to check everything out and get back to this tomorrow morning or so.

will do - don't know what the hell the problem is. Its dark, cold, and raining here - so can't do anything. I couldn't even get on it because its wet out.

Anyway, I know everything is plugged up. I'm guessing a wire or two are pinched. Or I just don't have the oil pressure.......... I threw a code like i said - don't know what it is....it only comes on when i'm engine braking.

Its going to be hella nice once i get the speedo and vtec working. Who said 8lb flywheels aren't streetable? I guess i'm just a pro at driving the stick. I let three other people drive the car - and it stalled everytime. I guess i'm just that good though.........

I absolutely love that clutch - its just so crisp and "catchy".........its nice. oh yeah. It makes me want to forget about my turbo setup and go N/A. Its so tempting. I think I might seriously. 12:1 c/r setup on 94 octane

If your speedo doesnt work I am willing to guess you will throw a code 17 for the vss. and thats why your vtec doesnt work. Vtec wont work below a certain mph I want to say 5 or 15mph. so if you dont have a vss signal you wont have vtec.

Did you use your original vss or no?

also just make sure if you used a different vss that you dont have to pull out the plastic piece inside.

Car finally stalled on me for the first time this morning on the way to work. Damnit!

OK. I found out the problem.

There are three wires going to a switch on the transmission - basically right between the distributor and vtec solenoid.

It has a blue, yellow, and i think green wire connected. My wires were pulled off. I don't know what that is - it looks like the reverse light switch, but mine come on. So it has to be something important.

Whatever it is - it might be necessary for the VSS to run. Some kind of neutral switch or something. Does anyone have a picture of the transaxle inside the car from the engine bay?

its the reverse light switch..........damn..........

that doesn't help at all. I can't find the problem. The vehicle speed sensor could be fucked....don't know.
