92 prelude owners! Replacing VSS?
So I need to have my VSS replaced. I searched around and researched the part numbers and the 92' prelude VSS is different from all other years no matter which model.
So for those with a 92 lude and have changed their vss out, is it basically a simple fix? Will I be needed to take off the power steering lines? Is it just one bolt like on the other models? What tools did you need? Can't find the section in helms on how to replace it.

Wow still no replies hehe. Finally got a chance to check back here again... Just to make sure i have the right unit before i start unscrewing things, is this it? Can someone please verify.

Can someone refer me in the helms which section the VSS would be in... can't find it anywhere.

That looks like the right spot for the VSS, though it definately plugs in differently than 93-up (guess that's why it is a different part #). It should be one screw for the VSS itself and unclamp the two hoses. If you do it right you can minimize the loss of that nasty PS fluid.
Anyways, I have a 94 Helms & the electrical aspects of the VSS are in the PGMF-I section (11-82), while the mechanical aspects of it are in the Tranny removal section (13-5). That should get you in the ball park. I love the manual, just wish they would have put an index in it.

Hey thanks man ^^^ appreciate it. I'll check out around those sections in helms. Yah I read other models have the vss sticking veritcally, whereas the 92 is horizontal.
Hey what do you know... its on the same page haha... Weird though, the pictures in my book show it horizontally plugged in..
bump... Is that thing right above it the shifter cables? I can remove those for easier access to the vss right?

yup pull the shift linkage, but just make sure to replace the cotter pins when you reinstall them.
the vss should come out without removing any other lines. i will check my FSM and post some pics for you if you still need it.

Cool thanks. ^... I dont see any cotter pins anywhere along it though? There is a bracket holding in the shift cables right below the black big hose that is tangent to the red circle... Would all i need to do to move that out of the way is undo that? I dont see what else i can remove.
The cotter pins are on the actual cables. You really don't have to take those out, rather you can just undo the bracket and move the cables to the side. Then you just need a loooonnnnggg extension.
Keep in mind that the screws are not what you need to undo. There is one 10mm bolt holding the VSS in....in case you didn't already know

i thought "that sucks" as soon as i saw the title....
see if you can get down there without taking the cables out of the way, its not easy, but you only need to reach that one 10mm on the far side so it might be doable....
i have worked with a us 93 tranny that had a vertical plug and my 94 jdm tranny had a horizontal...personally i like the horizontal one better, its the usual 2 sided plug instead of plugging into the sensor itself...
