Yes, you can do it, I just did it 2 hours ago 
I used to fill it thorugh the fill-hole using a special "home-made-super-duper-turbo" filler
But this time I couldn't find it and it was pain in the *** to make another one so I just filled it through VSS

yup thats the way i do it, when i dont have access to a "plew's gun"

hell of alot faster than filling through the breather hole. used to do that with a homemade turkey baster/ funnel that i made.
