Default VIR this weekend, thoughts, etc. Long as usual.

Had a blast! The event went very smoothly for the most part. I can't say that I anticipated on my car getting even uglier than it already is (see https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=135143 ), but oh well. On sunday I shoepolished the back windshield with "LOOKS LIKE ***, GOES LIKE STINK" Hi Giles, I know you love this

Had 2 good students. I thought I was going to have my hands full w/ Ceas, but who the hell knew he could actually drive Actually he and Aleph both did a very nice job this weekend. Neither of you caused me to ruin underwear or lose my voice for which I am grateful. Hope to see you guys back out there next time.

I had a great time driving this weekend. My car is still all oily, but oh well. At least he didn't spit anything through my radiator. I got to spin cycle quite a few folks, one poor girl ended up being quite sick when we came in. Oops. I asked her to tap me if she wanted out. Put her through a 2:19 according to the video tape. Hmm, cool. Into the teens, baby. The car was a big handful still, and I just assumed it was from the 600F/900R springs. I was starting to get a little depressed at how wild she was.

So, saturday came and went, and then sunday morning arrived. GAWD DAMN it was cold. I left my car there with windows down. The entire thing was frosted over, from seats to tires. My seat actually crunched when I sat in it I figured that I had better settle the rear end down a bit since the track was so cold. I put the knobbie mabobbie one of the rear shock thingies, and tried to spin it softer. Uh... It didn't move. Warren = dumbass. I forgot to reset the shocks after I installed the new springs, so I had been running the last 2 weekends w/ the rear on full soft, and it was a little nuts. I vowed to drive through last weekend w/o making shock changes, but I said screw it on sunday. I'm glad I checked! So... I decided to do a little suspension testing. I cranked it up halfway towards full, and prepared myself for an absolutely crazy drifter setup. Boy was I in for a shock (haha, get it? ). The car was HOOKED UP. Predicatable and stuck like glue. Woooo boy. I think it was a little faster and TONS more driver friendly. I can't wait to slap some big tires on this snot rocket

The SMS header and exhaust were great. I think they contributed significantly to my ever dropping lap times. It may be as loud as the space shuttle launching, but boy oh boy, FAST. Stupid fast! Had all sorts of folks walking up wonder what was under the hood. I think I'll get some vinyl cut (Giles, Schultz, are you hearing this?) that says "Powered by 2 hamsters, and a gerbil."

It was kind of amusing. I was booked for joyrides on sunday. One of them was Chris Schanzel, 2 time ITA champ in the DC region. It was good getting his feedback, because we did a few things slightly differently, and I'm always game for good instructor input.

Anyhow, kudos to Jon Felton for running a very smooth and unrushed event. I can admit it now, but at this time last year, when I heard about Speedtrial, it was a circus. Now it running VERY nicely. Right up there with the best. Congrats Jon, you've come a long ways.

I'll try to get some video up this week. One of the Miata and one of a lap around VIR for all you poor west coasters who think Laguna is the shniz

Glad to see you had a great time, I had a lot of fun instructing. Sorry I had to bail for the last session. You did a great job for your first trip to the track.

's to Jon as well, GREAT event!

Great event. Great students. Great weather (although it was cold Sunday morning). Car ran fantastic. I kinda kept up with Adam, until he learned how to drive that CRX. By the last session he walked me bad. As expected, I have exactly not a damn thing for Shultz.

It is now official: The Type R is the best fawking stock car ever. I instructed in two: 1 modded, 1 stock. I felt the stock one was better balanced than the one with coilover suspension. I also got to drive them for 2-3 laps to familiarize my students with the track and the line. Even at 4/10s, I was so amazed at the mad skillz that car has.

Jon: Great damn job. This Speedtrial event was so far removed from the clusterfuck that was last years event. I wish the guys on the west coast could have been there to see what a quality track product looks like. This was probably in my top 3 all-time favorite events. And thanks again for the use of tires/pads

I could throw $25K at an SE-R and make it faster! (Inside joke.)

Wow, where to begin?!? First off, thanks to Warren!! Not many people have the guts to be instructors, much less when my name comes into play. You did a great job of keeping me inline when needed (hopefully not too often) and gave me a needed push into both compressing my braking zones and bringing my speeds up into the uphill esses.. Running solo was an amazing experience - both in terms of knowing that I had enough skills in the first place to get signed off, and then again when I found myself running faster and more consistant, while keeping the 3 demons that plauged me down (the early apex, trailbraking, and the dreaded "drag" shifts).. Also, hats off to Jon and George for handling the logistical arts of running a track event such as this.. Thanks again for letting me enjoy myself this weekend, folks!!

ceas..

And still have a Sentra worth only ~$5K (continuation of inside joke)

Ahh yes, the "dreaded drag shifts" Chris was ready to slap me for being so hard on my synchros out of turn 6a and in the back straight. Hopefully i'll learn the joys of smoothness before i break the car
