i plan on running around 20lbs on my 9:1 compression ls motor for dragging and shooting for 300whp daily driving

i believe the limiting factor is your setups capability, 400whp stock sleaves is common, if you want 500 plus id def go with sleaves

again its all in the tune of the car, even sleaved motors wont last long w/o a good tune

For your hp goals sleeves are not needed at all nor is a blockguard.

dont use a blockguard or anything for up to 400hp, stock sleaves are fine for 400, anyhthing 450 n up get sleaves

No block guard and no sleeves. You can meet your power goals reliably without both.

going to run the Z6 i have with a block guard. going to make a budget Z6 build running a GT28R. it's all up to the whp you wish to gain and turbo size.

you dont need to sleeve it or put a blockguard on it, just take it to a very reliable tuner and have him tune it to what you want.

Overheating and improper installation.

They are, plain and simple, a waste of money.

They aren't a waste of money at all.

They just have to be installed correctly.

I would recommed having it sleeved but I've run 24 psi on a stock block with a stacker head gasket (B18C5) and made over 400hp on it.

http://www.atsracing.net/nicks...R.htm

I tuned it and stopped tuning once we hit this mark. I could've easily gained more power. I was just very concerned about it comming apart with this much power but it lived for over 6 months until the manifold fell apart.

As every one mentions. Tuning is everything. It doesn't matter if its built or not a properly tuned engine is everything.

I would never run this much power in my engine w/o building it.

block guards are hype.........True sleeves are your only chance. Thats just the way it is and the way it will always be...
You can chance 400+ on the stock sleeves, but wouldnt want to if I had the money to do it right.

I would rather use nothing at all than use a blockguard. My SOHC has a $2k head with a $2k shortblock and I still wouldn't go near a blockguard.

weekend draggger or not u dont need sleeves unless u have money to throw down .. ive seen 610whp on stock sleeves. its all on your tuner to decide if its safe to run stock sleeves on high hp set up ..what is your horsepower goals

they arent cheap.. if you dont expect the engine to see 500+ then dont do it..

also.. dont have your mind set on X psi daily x psi track.. your tuner will set you at the highest power level you can safely attain with your local pumpgas.. whatever psi it should be.. take his word for it

don't be a cheap *** do it right the first time and sleeve it, its not your daily so let the car sit for awhile, i made the mistake of not building my motor when i should have, now its costing more time and money when i shoulda done it all in one shot but i got greedy, u gotta have patience. i haven't drove my car since dec 2, 2004, but it's almost all done
