Default 3" AEM CAI... might be of interest to 4th gen owners

The 2.5" AEM CAI for the 4g was choking my engine so I wanted a 3" AEM CAI for the 5g Prelude. While this is not as cheap as the D-Y-I 3" U-pipe method, it was real easy and looks clean.
All I had to do was cut out about 2" of the one-piece tube to make it fit. You have to cut out 1" anyway to mount the bypass valve. Oh, and I had moved the battery to the trunk too. I don't think this will work with the battery in the stock location.
The extra half-inch of diameter plus a VAFC got me 9 dyno-proven WHP. I'd say no more than 2 of that is from the VAFC, so that's 7 ponies for the intake alone. I'd imagine it'd provide similar gains for the F22? I dunno if this will fit a 5g. Probably would too.

I told you it would fit Dave. I kept my battery in place and made the hole bigger for the intake. Nice!!

Oh, and here's a Koyo radiator next to an OE unit

Are some members concerned this board is becoming all-show-no-go? Is this the ugliest P-O-S you ever saw? What an eyesore.

Edit: no that's not missing paint on the hood, it's mud. Underneath the grime the paint and clearcoat are in really good condition.

Sometime last year when we both thought about putting a 3 inch intake on our cars. I might of forgot to tell you. Can you post your dyno?

Does the 5th lude CAI fit in a 5th Accord with little modification? How is the low end power? I hear 5th gen lude owners say they lose some low end with AEM CAI, I'm guessing do to the 3 inch pipe. The 4th gen lude is 2.75 and I don't here them complain about low end losses.

The 3" will also fit without cutting the CAI and the battery remains in the stock location, You will hust have to trim about 1/4" off of the battery tray to clear the CAI. I also had to remove the black plastic case that covers the map/barametric sensors. I painted the sensors all black so they wouldn't stand out much. I also used a "L" bracket to mount the CAI (braket) to the shock tower.
4doorH22, your engine looks killer! Good work!

Note: the factory JDM intake is 3" diameter as well.

Ohh I guess I'll try to get an AEM CAI to fit then. I was planning on getting an Injen CAI for an Accord which uses 2.75 pipe and will fit perfectly. I would rather have AEM though. Is leaving the cover off the sensors bad though?

I don't think I lost any low end. It certainly doesn't feel like it. I'd have to check the dyno plots. I'll post them up tonight.

Dave, can you take a picture from the other side showing the hole you had to make where the filter goes?
Whats the electircal tape on the headlights for?
How did you finally manage to get your strut tower bar on? Wasnt your ABS master cylinder in the way?

I havent experienced any problems with taking the cover off of the sensors. It is there for a reason, most likely cosmetic as well as protection. It's placement in other cars such as the 93 prelude leave some of the same sensors exposed. If you are worried about the protection factor, I would just move the "black box" about 1" to the left (looking at the motor). It would be an easy mod as well.

good job! you could have used an Injen cai, they are 3" and made for the accord. I do not see how different the AEM and the Injen could be.

What is the price diff Between the Ingen and the AEM? I just got the AEM because it was available. Is the Injen ceramic coated like the AEM or is it polished aluminum? It probably doesn't make too much difference in the intake temp...

I thought Injen only made short-ram style air intakes. Plus "Injen" sounds too ricey to me.

1) What is the diameter of an F22 throttle body?
2) Dave, can you take a picture from the other side showing the hole you had to make where the filter goes?
3) Whats the electircal tape on the headlights for?
4) How did you finally manage to get your strut tower bar on? Wasnt your ABS master cylinder in the way?
1) I dunno.
2) Yup, I'll do that tonight.
3) When on track, were another car to kick up debris and break your headlight, the tape stops it from shattering all over the pavement.
4) The Cusco strut tower bar would not clear the ABS reservoir. I gave up on it and just got a DC Sports... hey, it's better than nothing.

LoudAccord, do you have the Injen CAI cause a vendor told me it was 2.75 for an Accord and supposedly it 2.75 for 5th gen ludes too.

Whats the diameter of the H22 throttle body?
If the F22 throttle body is only 2.75 inches, then how would getting a 3" CAI work? Wouldnt it be sort of redundent? I want a CAI instead of my short ram, so I'm looking into it.

He's got the blue box from Moroso off of Summit racing. $92 I think. I have a custom box ready to be relocated when it warms up.
