i *believe* you can depress the pedal while the car is off and key out and the lights will come on.. sounds like the brake switch is being depressed.
Normally, is the brake pedal engage the brakes up high? check out that switch..

When the brake pedal is not depressed, it is resting on a small switch that keeps the brake lights off. There's a little plastic nub on the pedal arm that presses this switch in. Get under the dash and look where the pedal arm rests and you'll get an idea how it all works.
It is very common for this plastic nub to break with age. Tell tale sign is an unusual blue or white plastic fragment loose in the in the driverside footwell.
They're like under $3 at a dealership.

I thougt that would work, is there a nut on the back, and also did you drill the hole bigger or not?

Yes,I put a nut on the back and I did not have to drill the hole any larger..
I did cut the bolt a little shorter so it would go in the space
created when the pedal is pressed..

Re: HELP! Brake lights problems 88crx (88crxhfb16)
I am having a problem I think is a little worse... The brake lights work on command but when the headlights are turned on all of my lights are on... When I hit the brakes w/o the headlights on all of my lights (including guage lights/clock dims) come on. So when I'm driving around at night it looks like i'm hitting the brakes.

the marker lights coming on when the brakes are applied is usually caused at the brake lights themselves.
most of the time it is from the wrong bulb being installed.
these should be a double filament bulb...a single filament bulb shorts the marker lights to the brake light system
