Default Code 22 - Will not go away!!! Please Help.

I have a H22 swapped in my EG.

I have no VTEC Oil Pressure switch, my engine didnt come with one. I ground the wire for the oil pressure switch from the ECU so that the ECU thinks there is always good oil pressure.

At first the car has no CEL, and VTEC works fine... but after about 10 second of VTEC... no matter what I am doing, the VTEC shuts off and I get the CEL for code 22. It doesnt matter if I am racing, or just cruising at 6000rpm for a duration.... 10 seconds of VTEC and then POOF its gone and I get code 22.

Code 22 is for VTEC oil pressure switch... however since I have that wire grounded... how am I still getting that code???? How would the ECU know if its grounded via a switch or straight chassis ground? I dont get it.

I have tried 3 different ECUs, so its not a bad ECU. I have tried grounding via one of the ground wires at the ECU, and I have also tried gfounding it to straight chassis ground.

Has anyone ran into this before?

Have you tried getting an oil pressure switch?

an oil pressure switch will not do anything... the vtec oil pressure switch just grounds the wire when pressure is high enough. By just grounding the wire instead of running it to a switch you are acomplishing the same thing... there are many people running around like this... since every 97+ JDM i think engine doesnt have this switch.

I just got back from changing the pin in the ECU plug and regrounding it, and that didnt do ****.

There is something here causing the ECU to give it this code, and its not making sense at all.

WTF?

I searched around and found several threads with people having this indentical problem after doing a swap, and no one ever figures it out, the thread just dies off.

Honda makes a well engineered vehicle, if there was no purpose for the pressure switch, im sure they would have saved the money and not put them on

there is a purpose to the oil pressure switch, and that is to switch to ground when oil pressure is adequate. i thought we all knew that.

either way... knowing that doesnt solve my problem, I have that wire grounded all the time, which means the ECU thinks there is ALWAYS adequate pressure. There are COUNTLESS CARS running around without the switch, it is not required, its only a safty measure, which I am willing to live without... If I added the switch right now the only thing that would change is that I have a switch, cause it would still only be grounding at pressure and that means the end result would be what I already have.

Anyone experienced have some advice here?

Did you check that there is continuity(no breaks) in that wire from the point of ground, back to the ecu.

I would imagine thats not it if you tried grounding it directly at the ecu, but its worth a try. GL

do you have a multimeter ? see if you're getting good voltage to the solenoid to start off...Also FWIW I thought I could do the old ground trick with my obd2 swapped car and it did the same **** yours is doing...it would work then it would screw up, then i'd reset the code and it would work again. So the grounding trick doesn't work in all situations. I since rewired everything and double checked to make sure I have voltage to both oil pressure and solenoid and it works perfect ever since.
