Everyones favorite argument. CAM TESTING. JUN Type 3 VS Skunk Type 2.

I could have probably tuned the Skunk 2 Type 2's slightly closer.....with more exhuast cam gear tuning, but I ran out of time.
Look how the graphs are just like the SAME EXACT powerband. And looking and measuring the cams....they are damn close.
They both have exact VTEC points...and for fun, after I fully, fully tuned the JUN 3's, I dropped in the Skunk 2's and the tuning was almost exact. I spent hours tuning the Skunks and after hours, the difference in tuning was less than about a few percent...
For all those asking about Skunk Type 3's... I DID put them in...
I tune them tommorrow. I did one pass at exact same settings as JUN 3's and it made SAME peak, but 15 HP less in mid.
probably lean.
More coming.

Not saying this will happen. But remember Skunk2's first batch of their old cams were breaking left and right. They did however take care of their customers from what I heard, which is good. I just hope they put a lot of R&D time on these cams, you never know these days. They do have a very attractive price of them though.
Me personally I would stick with Jun3's. Proven time and time again.

jeff,
what kind of springs do you need to run the skunk 2 cams? i'm not sure what kind i have, but they are the ones that are slimmer than stocks with a similiarly small titanium retainer. i think they're web kits. are you familiar with anything that sounds like that?

get it right please. the original skunk2 cams wore itself out and rocker arm pads out. bad, but totally different than "breaking left and right". for the record no skunk2 cams has ever broke into pieces, where there are cases of Toda, JUN, and Crower cams breaking.
thanks for the test jeff, I knew that the specs were close, but never realized that they were this close

Hey Jeff did you see a dip at around 6000 rpm's at first when you put the cams in and if so how did you get rid of it. My vtec is set at 5400 also and it climbs like that till 6000 then it dips down about 6 hp then climbs at that point i was wondering if that is because i have 2.25 exhaust and JDM 4 to 1. Also did you have it wanting to lean out right at vtec. Did you use a short ram intake on this motor and hondata.
Jeff - good info
Why were 310 cc/min injectors selected for this motor? Don't you want bigger ones in there?

to skunk2! they copied the JUN 3's and called it their stage 2. So does that mean their stage 3 is a copy of Toda C cams? wow, great R&D work....I'm being sarcastic BTW. [Modified by Blade, 11:07 AM 2/13/2002]
Damn is that true? Skunk2 is copying Jun cam profile. Can anyone confirm this?
I hope this is not the case, or I'll loose all respect for Skunk products. This doesn't mean that I won't buy their stuff, especially if it's alot cheaper.

BFD... skunk2 aka group A has been doing this for a LONG time. looks at their strut bars, ect, exact copy of the spoon. I wouldn't be surprised if it came from the same factory in Taiwan. For years people out here in cali have known group A to be Japanese quality at Taiwan price. Now you don't think they actually got there by doing their own r & d right? people want things that work well and are cheap, and when they get that, they complain.
