Default Forum Going down the crapper

Okay ladies and gentelmen,

I've been noticing more and more that nobody reads the rules. I tried tricking you all into reading them, and frankly, from here on out, you're going to be suffering whatever consequences I feel necessary.

I WILL be docking for each and every thread I have to lock or move because it's littering the 92-00 Civic forum with no tech in it. I WILL be locking any thread that turns into a flame fest. I WILL be docking points for people posting unnecessary crap in threads.

Sorry it had to come to this, but this forum will be cleaning up, one way or the other. Something's going to be done to jerk it back into shape. Consider this your warning.

Sincerely,

Ricey McRicerton
Your resident 92-00 Civic hardass

I'll also take this thread to have you, as the forum members, suggest anything that would help the forum run more smoothly. I encourage you all to read and reply to this. It'll help it stay on the first page, and god only knows, stickying it won't help. Nobody reads those anyway.

It might sound unreasonable, but I think new members should go through a 7 day thing where they can't post at all. This way they are forced to search. I know you don't even have to be a member to search, but people don't like to search so mine as well force them to

As for the stupid threads ("is this JDM?", accord commercial, etc. ), those can't really be prevented...

dont be sorry if i had the power i would have been docking points the first time. people dont learn unless action is taken right at the start. but thats just me.

my suggestions,

1. trial members that violate any of the rules: deserve a post restriction from 5 to 2 daily posts for a month and an pm/email to them about why they are limited. for get about the % docking it really donst help anyway. but limiting their posts for a month will certainly get the point across. if they create a new account well they will create a new one regardless.

2. regular members that violate any of the rules: deserve a post restriction from 5 daily posts for a month and an pm/email to them about why they are limited. for get about the % docking it really donst help anyway. but limiting their posts for a month will certainly get the point across. members that have been here awhile will probably not create a new account due to the posts points they have aquired.

warning people.. please... it doesnt stop them from doing the same thing next month...this is strict by all means. but the only way i feel people learn is to restict their posting... anyone have that feeling of wanted to post something but couldnt? yea.. it sucks... so read/follow the rules and you should be fine.

3. doesnt pertain to the forum but its something that i have noticed and could free up some space im sure somewhere. someone needs to go through the members list and delete all the low post counts , zero post accounts... there are tons of people that clearly have multipal accounts that just sit there. there are tons of people that have 2-4 year old accounts with like 0-10 posts... if you cant post here on the boards on a regular basis, then you need to make space for those that want to post here. click on the members lists, put the letter "a" under user name then click next.. and you can see for yourself how many users we have that create accounts yet have only posted 0,3, 10 for the past 2-3 years .... then type in the letter "b" and so on and so on.. i say these accounts need to be deleted.

4. i will keep sending pm's to mods for violations, hopefully they will get tired of me and give me my own lock button that i can click

here a perfect example. members been here since 2001 only 91 posts since then, and have posted a picture thread about his engine swap.. no tech what so ever... warning him? , docking % points?

I've downloaded some programs that have the terms and agreements section.

They force you to read it by making you scroll all the way through it before you can click "accept".

I don't know how you guys could use it, but I think it would really help.

Mabe have a quiz for noobs to take before they can post.

If a trial user creates a thread that doesn't belong in this thread, or asks a question that has been asked 5x10^70000000, they should have a 24hr lockout from the time the thread is locked.

edit:some people only have a few posts because they spend all of their time in GDD.

I do like the idea ^ had about limiting posts if you blatenly haven't read the rules.

Appreciate the suggestions. When I dock a trial user, the trial user status starts over. They could be in their first day or an hour away from getting full membership. It completely resets them.

These will be forum changes, not site wide changes. Many of the other forums don't have the same problems we do in here, which is why I feel it's correctable.

I don't think they should be reset a full month. Just another 2 weeks to get the point across "READ THE FREAKIN RULES MAN! READ EM DUDE!"

edit: When I first read the title to this thread I was thinking "Here's another thread for Ricey to lock"

I wonder if there is a way to put a rules page for newer members persay under 30 post count as they entered the 92-00 civic section letting them know the rules manditory before letting them in ! lol i think that might help.

Sounds like a good idea. These guys have to have repercussions to get the point across. Resetting them to trial over and over sounds like a pretty decent way to keep some of the crap down anyway.

Should there be some sort of guildlines for a user ban or IP ban for repeat offenders?

I think that's a good idea. Have a page that shows up when trial users go into the 92-00 forum. Make it last mabe 2 or 3 minutes the first few times they get online, that way, if they have any brain at all, instead of touching themselves in inappropriate areas they will actually read what is on their screen. Mabe a flash program or something.

is there anything that can be done about the titles? It makes it hard to search for something if people don't make good descriptions in the titles. I know I've had problem searching for something I know I've seen, took me forever because the title didn't have a good description. I think this would help cut down on reposts if it were easier for people to search for something, that is if they even try searching at all.

edit:
two examples I found on the first page right after I posted this...

Where would one find these parts?
Will this fit in ?

I like this idea too. Mabe you could give a few trusted members access to change the titles on archived files.

That way instead of a brake drum to disc question being titled "Help!" it can be changed to something useful like "Brake change drum to disc 92 95 civic"

I think you as a mod should do what you feel is necessary, but a few things should be kept in mind.

1) some youngins may not know how a forum generally runs in regards to rules and such.

2)I have noticed alot of times I go to search for something and search function does not work, sucks when you are in a hurry what you post may be a repeat, but you dont know as search doesnt work.(happened to me a few times).

3)I find myself sometimes having a hard time deciding which forums to post what questions in.

How about a 3 strikes rule put in effect?

Yeah, those I NEED HELP FAST, NOW PLEASE... are pretty annoying. Docking points doesn't seem to help too much, maybe put a restriction on creating new posts for a while with a violation of that rule?

Do we have a motor specific forum? I just came across a thread https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1288883 about a guy asking about OBD-0 B series cams. I think a motor specific forum would help people tremendously. Some of the teg guys probably know a bit more about B series than you can find out from the guys in the civic forum.

Other than swapping, electrical, and chasis questions, I'm sure a lot of the motor questions we have in this forum get asked & answered in the other ones as well.

I say instead of limiting posts, why not keep them from viewing the forum period for a couple weeks? Make it so you have to sign in to even view the forum, and put a block on those that don't adhear to the rules. Would that be too cumbersome to keep up with?

There's also an FI forum. I mean a motor specific forum. IE- B series, D series, and F/H series.

This is a big problem and would help this forum move a lot more smoothly. You very rarely see titles that match the point of the post. Finding a better way for the new members to see and understand the rules is key. They make a post that doesn't abide by the rules, we tell them they aren't supposed to post this, they insult or complain and flaming begins. It's a never ending story.

ooohh. I didn't you know you meant specific engine forum. Eh. It would be nice but I think theres a couple problems with that, but mostly, people will still post their questions/comments in the Civic forum, just cause. For example, people still post appearance-type threads in the Civic forum, Kills stories, and even stuff belonging in GDD.

I don't think its the site that needs to be changed so much. Just users have to learn to use the scroll function and some common sense...
