I was just wondering what is the most boost lbs a b18a1 could hold stock and what would be a safe pressure to run at

do not go by boost bro, every turbo will make different power at different boost levels. You should be cool to around 300 whp +/-.

 

I have a t/3 turbo with a AR .48.42 sides on it. I know it is small but I just want to try it out to see what it does. I am planning on getting the .48 and .60 turbo. I heard those are better.
PS I am not boosted yet but I have everything I need to do it. I am just waiting because I have to go out to sea Friday and I don't get back till july 12th Then I am planning on doing it. For engine management I just got a fmu

 

you should be good around 250whp, that's if you want your motor to last. if you don't have a dyno to go to or can't afford one, don't take it past 6~8 psi on an fmu just for safety reasons. i know many have and will swear by it, but not all are as lucky as those few.

 

The only rteal important thing is the tune... Without the proper tune, your engine wont be reliable with any amount of boost. With a very good tune, you should be able to handle around 10 psi..

 

Safe boost? Isn't that an oxymoron?

I'm in the middle of my turbo project right now and planning for 9psi with exactly the same t3 as yours on B18C1 GSR. I hope to see around 230-240whp tuned with uberdata

 

I wan't to know the same thing a safe amount of boost if tuned right....cause i will be daily driving this ls....and want to know whats a safe boost to go on stock motor. Or if i should do some prepping before boosting.

 

Think about your stock oil pump it can't handle a whole ton I don't care what kind of tune you have

WHAT!?!? prove it. EVERYONE I personally know with 400+ beasts run stock pumps...now they may be new, but they are still STOCK! This is how misinformation gets started.

For the original topic and everyone else in here:

A.) learn to search, you guys are beating on a dead horse that has been rotting for years
b.) To answer it all, you can blow up your car at 3PSI or you can run just fine on 16PSI it's all in the tunning and amking sure your cylinder pressures and heat stay safe. Horsepower stresses internals NOT boost pressure. On an unsafe tune you can be detonating or have high EGT's leading to less reliability. stick to 250-260whp and you'll last a LONG time on a quality tune.
C.) Keep reading guys and you'll learn a lot about the dark side (boost)...it's fun and offers tons of power with good reliability, but it's gotta be done right knowledge wise. The more knowledge you have the cheaper it'll be and the safer.

 

So i would assume that on a B18C1 260-280whp would also last a long time on a quality tune?

i had a buddy with the same turbo you have and he was running 8 psi untuned, fully tuned you can prolly do tops 11psi

no car is safe untuned...he is lucky the map he is running works alright.

and since a b18c1 would do 260-280 on a qaul tune(which you agree on) approx 8psi on a t3 , then an Ls with the turbo which he will be using should do about 280-290 with about 11psi which is what the stock bottom end should be able to handle, read what turbo he is going to be using b4 you open up your loud mouth idiot. have had plenty of friends with t'd tegs but are now out of the game getting to old. hey and until we both have a turbo LS than we can actually post an experience here right.

 

no one can say how much power your motor can make and still be safe. i know of guys making over 350whp on stock ls motors and they're still running after 3 years. again, it's all in the tune and how conservative you drive. hell you could have a bone stock motor and make 400whp and still have it last.

 

all depends how risky you want to be, and tuning. Some like to be on the safeside and be at 6-8psi, some like to be on the edge and are at 10-14psi on stock motor.

When things are arguable or don't make sense to me I'm really not mean, but this is EXACTLY how misinformation gets spread and start to confuse people so I have to be bold and brutle when it comes to simple things like this.....again sorry

I haven't been that long in this forum, but I'm beginning to sense that quite a few people out there have some anger problems. Anyone feeling the same thing?

If it is misinformation, just help correct it. Don't you think it's unnecessary to be pissed about it?

listen guys I'm normally never angry or anything and quite helpfull, but when it comes to people saying things because they see other people doin it or just kinda assume themsleves, that is just bad. The thread was being answered well with everyone's posts until I saw someone post some dumb comment about changing an oil pump! then someone said untuned 8 PSI is ok and 11PSI is tops....that's rediculous if you truely understand how engines operate. I have run 16 PSI once just for giggles.....i know what i was doin and i don't run this everyday. My point is people look for information on this site and when someone posts something dumb as mentioned above people now think that is the truth without knowing why. That is misinformation and I really try to keep that away from people who try to learn hence I have to be harsh to make a point.....obviously it worked all too well . Just keeping learned by reading books or taking classes and then you'll truely understand why those staments were just wrong. If you need a thorough explanation of why any comments were wrong. I'll be glad to answer and only what I know and not just "hear". Hope that clears things up

check it out, everythings cool here dont hold grudges, to be honest dont really give a F. when i meant running 11 psi tops, its to be on the safe side. i know you ran 16psi just for giggles, but i can guarantee that if you ran that car for a month you would blow your **** know matter what size turbo you have and how good of a tune it has if a <U>stock bottom end</U>(like the original guy that posted this thread). unless maybe a (small turbo)t25. and to the others making 400 hp on a stock bottom, good luck bcause it wont last very long either, sure on conservative driving, but who the hell is not going to dogg the **** out of a 350-400HP car tell me that, if your gonna drive it like a granny might as well have stayed stock. anyways im done here. nice chatting ladies.
