Default Skunk2 Pro 1 vs Rocket M22

The motor is a a JDM ITR (11:1 CR) with bolt ons. I have an SMSP header and the proper valvetrain to support either of these cams. I have used skunk2 stage 1 cams and buddy club 3+ cams in the past but I am ready to move to some more aggressive cams.

DonF has stated that the pro 1 beat the m22 on his 11.6:1 GSR. The 2 cams were about even on this 11.7:1 2.0 liter:

My biggest concern is with my stock 11:1 compression ratio. Which cams will work best with this compression ratio?

I think you would love either. When you buy the M22's, they come with an ECU chip that works very well in most cases. The Pro1's can be a little tricky to tune.

If you wanna pull to 9.5k then m22x is really good. Otherwise it's a toss up powerwise from the dyno's I've seen.

I will be having them professionally tuned with hondata s100.

Anyone else have an opinion? Do I have enough compression for the Pro 1?

Our cams are usually sold as a package with a custom chip so one will have less problems with the tune.

Obviously I am biased but there are couple things we do a lil different with the cams that I like over the Skunks.

I think it boils down to where you want to make your power and how high you want to rev. The M22's have been proven time and time again....bottom line, you CANNOT go wrong with the product, custom service, or the horsepower numbers. Both are an awesome cam, but I personally like the M22....the best money I ever spent on my motor

pro-1's have 12.5mm lift and rockets have 12.1mm i like the lower rpm figures of the pro1, but for my setup personally, i dont want to run something with that much lift.

unless you really spec your parts and measure everything, and make sure your valvetrain and handle it.

Agreed. The thing I like is the fact that the M22's will work fine in a GSR with stock compression just meaning the more compression and more mods added, the more potential the cams have to work at the optimum performance.

I roll around with my baby seat in the back on my car

To add to the thread, I am running the M22's in my 11.3:1 compression B18C1 and absolutely love the cams. Power gains all the way from ~3,000rpms up.

How much gains and at what RPM and vs what cams? Dyno chart?

I have no dynos against other cams at this time. This is a dyno of before and after I fixed piston rings, all other things remained the same...

There is still some tuning left to be done, but its fairly close in that graph. Stock 60mm TB isn't helping me breathe up top.

Hey rocket! Im trying to decide which cam i should use. Im running a b18c with (12:1 cpr) and need to change cams. Which cam would be better! Yours or the skunk2 pro? Any suggestions would be nice. Sorry if im thread jacking or anything.

At that compression, you might like the M22's better. They will tend to carry more power in the upper rpm ranges than the Pro1's.

Ask Blundar,

He's really liking the M22's over the other cams he has tuned.

Asking me to about S2 v. RM is like asking David Hsu the same question.

I have a 89x85mm 12.8:1 compression dart block build w/ 50mm ITBs that will be using the Skunk2 Pro1s. I'm not sure if this motor will be a meaningful comparison to plenum manifold stock bore motors, but I'll be sure to post up comments after it's done.

I just got done with a GSR w/ JDM ITR pistons, ported B16 head, flat valves, M22s, skunk2 IM and it was very impressive.

My immediate point of comparison was a GSR w/ JDM P30 pistons and BC3+ cams. There really was no comparison between the two motors, despite compression being roughly equivalent.

Rocket's stuff works. I've heard great things about the Skunk2 Pro1s as well. I'd look at price and availability as determining factors because both are geat cams.

Rocket +1 vote

I have sold tons of Pro1s through my day job, and ive sold tons of Rocket motorsports camshafts as well.

I simply prefer RM, i ran his cams on my old motor, and will be stepping up to some bigger ones for my new motor.

YOU CANNOT BEAT THE POWER, PRICE, PACKAGE deal you get with RM.
