Default is there any disadvantage to a light-weight flywheel?

besides rev'in up faster, is there any other disadvantages to a lighter weight flywheel? Some1 tells me that i will lose torque because of the redused mass of the flywheel.

if you're going turbo....you don't want a flywheel too light...you'll go through the RPMs so fast the turbo boost won't have a chance to really kick in because you'd be shifting into the next gear already.
another example is the LS tranny...longer gears are good for forced induction...

I thinks it's more difficult to launch if the flywheel is too light!

I think you have an increased chance of stalling the engine once in a while...

I believe it takes time to get used to. Once you're used to it, there shouldn't be any disadvantages.....

<<<taking off the line, if your into 1/4's. it will take a while to get used to.,but thats the only the disadvantage i can think off, however, my opionion >>do it, it's worth it>>>>

sorry to point u out like this but all that information is incorrect... first of all... the whole point of a turbo is to go through the rpm's faster! going through the rpm's faster means u will be faster!

and ls trannies suck for boost... their ratio's are too short... shorter ratios witll always be faster... people tend to think the ls tranny is good because u "stay in boost longer" who cares? shift the damn car and get higher up in the power band quicker!

lighter flywheel tends to make a car stall when deaccelerating, the fly wheels keeps forward momentum on motor when going for acceleration to deacceleration, to light a flywheel and youll stall at every stop light
also if you have a sound system, your car will stall on heavy bass hits.
just thought id let ya know

yeah shorter gears are better for 1/4mile, up until you finish the track past 130mph
thats when u need longer gears to get a higher MPH.

-disadvantage for turbo would be dropping out of boost.
-Bogging when your driving.
-the clutch destroying the flywheel (4pucks 6pucks)

you always want to climb up the RPM quicker, period.
having a longer gear to achieve speed is not nessecary a good idea especially on the street... especially in hondas...our power band is up top, mostly, a longer gear will take you longer to get to the power band..if MPH is concern, raise your rev, then to the gearing..i found that having a type R tranny and a 9.5k rev is very suitable for the street, third gear is over 100 already, that's plenty enough for me
and long gear is not especailly desire as i found myself fall out of the power bands easy...root type supercharger is kinda different story...
as close and short as possible, till the traction become a problem.
back to the topic, my flywheel is about 7 lbs, from comptech, light as hell, i don't have much problems with it, it just take times to adjust to, it does rev faster, but the downside of it is, it also fall faster, that's why sometimes you stall...

its either you bog or stall when driving on a hill
it drops faster

1st gear is really really fast, 1-3k rpms is like non-existent

I have a 7lb flywheel (fidanza), and there is NO problems at all. For the winter I have a huge stereo, and have never had a problem. I do kill it maybe once a month, but thats becuase Im trying to keep it too low rpm.

The only disadvantage I can think of, is if you are an average person. The average Joe will not like it. It makes your car more like a race car.

I will definately do super light flywheel and clutch on ever car I own from now on. I love it!!

yea if its too light, and you dont get your crank rebalanced you can end up with a blown bottom end like we did.

I am serious about the stero thing and the bogging up hills
remember why flywheel exists, keep forward momentum on motor, lighter flywheel less momentum momentum=mv so and low revolutions you depend on mass to keep engine turning over exhaust stroke to intake stroke requires momentum, and if you are on lighter flywheel your car will idle lower and addition torque required for engine such as AC or stero will cause car to bog down or stall at starts espeically hills
