Cracked climate control...most of us rex owners have them. I know someone has already come up with a faceplate that goes over repaired CRX climate controls but I have found an OEM alternative.
Here's what I've done:
My climate control was severed in 2 places and the mounts were fractured. I glued the unit together and also filled the gaps on the backside with a lot of RTV silicone to absorb some of the shock and hold the unit together better. To support the right side mount, I drilled a hole on the side of the metal bracket and installed a set screw to reinforce the right side of the unit. I found this was sufficient in keeping the unit together. Everything worked perfectly and I ignored the visible cracks in the face plate until yesterday. I have a spare Civic EF climate control that I couldn't give away for $10 so I started tinkering with it and discovered that the faceplate was removable and the same dimensions as the CRX unit. This thread would be worthless without pics, so here ya go...
Civic climate control faceplate:

Finished project:

Sorry, I forgot to take before pics. Also forgot to take pics of the backside of the faceplate.
What I really like about this piece is that it's OEM textured plastic with a bevel around the inside which makes it look like it belongs there.
Let me know what you guys think.

Very nice dude. I have seen a more ricey approach that I did like. They guy took his and glued the crack back together, reinforced the back, then took a carbon fiber looking sticker thing and covered it. It looked good with his cf looking shift ****. Yours is by FAR better IMO though. Too bad I have a civic.

LOL, hey man Razo pedals were the **** back in the day (which is probably when they were put on by the previous owner).
Todd, I'm not trying to sell anything just wanted to share my idea. It does take some work to get right and you need to ruin a civic unit but the end result is excellent.

No problem just wanted to harass you a little bit. Any solutions that can help the community out are all good.
I just like being able to joke with people and have them think it is good humor too...just like you did

If you go to the dealer, be sure to bring some vaseline. If you go to the junkyard, goodluck finding a mint one. I think they've been selling on ebay for around $120.
