Just bought a Corbeau seat and rollcage......what harness to get??????
I did a search but ended up more confused. I have a 97 Civic hatch with an Autopower 4 point race bar and Corbeau Forza 2 seat....I figured choosing a harness would be a no brainer....but I am more confused than ever.....What type of harness to get for street?4point.....5point...6 point? Roll bar mount? Individual? Roll bar?etc..etc Also I have heard that harnesses are illegal for highway use? I don't need anything fancy.....just something that will keep me safe if the crap hits the fan
yeah I like that also, but I ma hearing that 4 points tend to submarine? I know nothing about harness's which is why I ask.........what about this design http://www.racerwholesale.com/Mercha...Code=Harnesses

As cheap as the RacerWholesale deal is, I'm amazed people buy anthing else! I believe it's still $109 for any Sabelt/Sparco harness you want. My personal choice would be a 5 point with clip-in lap and sub belt, or 6 point with clip-in lap and bolt-in sub belt, both with the wrap-around shoulder belts for the roll bar.
Here's a pic:

I second the SABELT from Racerwholesale, i just put a pair in my car, and they are fantastic. I'd highly recommend getting a five point camlock, because you dont' HAVE to use the 5th point, but you'll have it when you really should use it (track etc). It's not at all uncomfortable if you fit everything properly. I've got a detailed install (for an integra, anway) up at http://www.sandmracing.com/ssabelt.html
Get a 5 point. There is a tendency to tighten the shoulders too much with a 4 point. That causes the sub. problem. There are some driving groups that won't let you on track with the 4 point. If you don't have a lot of bucks for it, get a latch & link style. It is a little more work to belt in, though. You are right. It isn't legal to use the harness (any) in many states unless it had goverment approval. Check out the link that Aleph gave you. He details a nice install. He has both his harness & oem belt. I used to run a similar system when I had a street/track car. I used to buckle up the harness & put it behind the seat when I wasn't using it. Helps to keep things from smacking you in the head.
I got 2 of the Racer Wholesale Sabelt 5 point CAMLOCK harnesses for $109 each... now Im just waiting on the Autopower!

As some have mentioned, a 4 point is not a real good idea. A crash can result in injury from the lapbelt breaking ribs etc. Go with a 5 or 6 point. You won't be wearing the harness on the street anyway. If you can move enough to merge and headcheck then the belts are too loose to be worthwhile.
Stay away from those rally/street hybrid belts. They are pricey and IMO are not as effective as the 3" restraint systems such as the Sabelts.

Sabelts are your best bet, very good for the money. I think I spent $116 for the 5pt h-style from racerwholesale.
I would recommend the Simpson Camlock setup. The webbing seems to be thicker than most that I have seen and the 3" shoulder and lapbelt distribute the tension across the body better, IMHO. Camlock is nice since each belt plugs in separately.
Definitely get the 5 or 6 point setup also to keep from anti-submarining and to keep the lap belts from riding up when you tighten the shoulder belts.
I have not seen any aftermarket harnesses that are street legal due, I believe, to the different mounting options available.

5 or 6 point harness and be sure to mount it properly since an improperly mounted harness will hurt you far more thanit will help you
BUT MAKE SURE YOU Check the laws in your state. It is my understanding that MOST racing harnesses are not street legal. Not becuase they aren't as good as a stock belt, but because the companies don't want to pay for the certification test.
