I have heard of a lot of people using the motorolla 2.5 bar map sensor instead of the AEM or GM map sensors. Are these sensors just as durable and accurate as the other two or are they more like use for a while and throw away ones?? Also does anyone know if the motorolla 2.5 bar map sensor is compatable with the AEM ems?? Thnx.

Wow, what a coincidence, mine just arrived today in the mail.

As far as accuracy, I bought mine because I heard that they are more accurate than a GM 3 bar.

As far as durability, yikes, be careful. These things are dinky. It's about 1/10 the size of a GM map sensor. Everything on it is very delicate. The screw holes and nipple will probably break if I so much as sneeze on this thing. Plus, I can see down to the piezo crystal which kind of baffles me. You'd think that would be covered so dust doesn't get inside.

Holy ****! That thing is extra small.... It looks a little fragile to me, but hey it's only like $20. Buy a couple and keep one on hot standby. What kind of management are you using?? And what is your setup if you dont mind.

Uberdata! I hope I can get this to work . Sometimes uberdata is a bitch, but there is a spot to select 2.5bar MAP, so I'll give it a shot.

Current setup is JRSC with stock MAP, but this motorola MAP isn't going on until my turbo setup is complete (SC50, d16y8, 20psi).


And it might make sense to buy two anyway - shipping would be the same, and actually, the $5 handling fee would be deducted from your total order because the grand total is over $25.

So buy one sensor, total = $26 ($18 for MAP, $5 for handling, $3 for ship).
Buy two sensors, total = $39 ($36 for MAPs, $3 for ship).

Just curious, does anyone out there know if this map sensor will work on AEM's stand alone unit. I already have the stand alone, so I need to know whether or not to buy this sensor. And yes I have tried asking on http://www.aempower.com already, but no one has responded to my question. I guess maybe its a nubbish question or something.......kinda pissin me off that no one will respond to it. And btw I have tried searching the aem site for similar threads and I have fumbled through the aempro software and still could not find the answer. I have the 1040 box and it is v1.11. Thnx.

Lol, usually guys who spend money on AEM units will shell out $50 for a GM map sensor.

But anyway, a MAP sensor is a MAP sensor. Any model (including the motorola) will work if you: (a) find a way to wire it up and (b) make sure the AEM unit knows it's reading from a 2.5 bar map.

So you'll have to solder/rig the sensor on then use the AEM software to set the ecu to 2.5 bar so the maps will scale correctly.

It's not that I am opposed to spending $50 for a map sensor......**** after all I spent $1400 on the stand alone unit. I was just under the impression that a map sensor should be sized to fit your application as to add more accuracy to the value given to the ecu. 2.5 would be much closer to the ~15psi that I will be boosting than the 3 bar sensor would be. That is the only reason that I want to know. BTW have you heard anything about the Rev Hard intake mani??? Good or bad. Thnx.

Not entirely true! The Motorola MAP sensors have different pressure vs voltage curves then the GM ones. Heck even different versions of the Motorla MAP sensors have different (and not necessarily linear!) curves. This difference can probably be tuned out but don't just toss it in there instead of a 2bar GM, tell the ECU it's 2.5 bar and go rip. You're going to have to do some tweaking.

It's a delicate sensor, don't mount it in the bay if you want it to live. put it near your ECU, in the passenger compartment, solder it TO the ECU, etc. The GM ones are made for the tough environment, these are not.

Also, there are 300kpa and 400kpa sensors available in the same package.

im running that map sensor right now. Its in my engine bay its been working good for like 3 weeks now. It does look fragile but I havent had a problem yet. I think I might need a bigger map sensor though.

You buy the sensors through digikey.com. And motorola specifically makes them for turbocharged cars, it's not like these things are random digikey parts.


Although, I never thought about the fact that the pressure/voltage scales can vary. The piezo crystal in this looks to be about the same size as the one in a GM sensor, so you know the sclales are close.

Yea, motorolla typically makes good electronic components, usually not cheap stuff. Enzo, you stay up pretty late huh?? Heh, I only know because im workin nights right now and I always see your posts at like 3am in the morning. Anyway here's a breif desc. of my setup:

Straight t04 garrett turbo, deltagate wastegate, greddy bov, custom 3" exhaust system.
Head:
Port and polish, crower valvetrain, crane stg II cams
Block (as soon as the damn machine shop finishes it):
Fully balanced
New bearings
ITR water/oil pumps
SRP 9:1 pistons
Eagle H rods
Ignition/Management:
450 dsm injectors
Walbro fuel pump
STR fuel rail
AEM ems

Will probably be boostin' 12-15psi

Any thoughts on probbable HP??? I'm hoping for like 290whp (12psi) - 330whp (15psi).

just buy it, wire it to the stock harness per the instruction i posted earlier and unplug the stock one when u have this one conected
just change settings on the engine management and ur good to go

thanks, i actually made 195wtq, but that was at 14.0 AFR, i had to richen it to 12'sAFR and thats when it dropped 10wtq

You guys have any pics of how you mounted the map sensor in the engine bay. Im going to order one of these right now. Also, when I install the map sensor, will I be able to drive it? Im going to order one of these sensors soon

be careful when u mount it
dont put too much pressure on it
if u bend the casing, it will not read right since the package is small and u can distort it
