Review - Megan Racing Header*56K Eat a Sammich*
Okay, so I decided my beat to death good old DC Sports header had kicked the bucket. Two of the 3 studs where the dp connects were stripped, the ceramic coat was demolished. It was bent, dented, scraped and scratched flat. Also had numerous attempts at welding it, haha welding ceramic w/o grinding = a good chuckle @ the muffler shop.
So I searched and searched, almost decided on the Bisimoto header, because well, I get a hardon just looking @ it. But I decided to buy the Megan Racing and use the rest of the cash to spoil myself since my Bday is the 29th of May. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...T%3A6 is the item I bought after seeing another thread that it was of a decent design, similar to the DC and was offered at a reasonable price. Here's the 1st day I got it, took 2 days shipping, seller rocked. Onto the pics

Tomarrow Morning I will get up and take pics of the process of replacing the DC Sports 4/2/1 with this header and give my Butt Dyno results. Till then, stay tuned. - Darrell

Really, thanks for enlightening me, because I really had no idea. Gee wiz, I just thought it was like that. No **** sherlock, but the SOHC header runners are almost exactly the sameas the DOHC D-series. Guess if you spent less time in GDD you'd maybe have the intelligence to distinguish between the two and understand the similarities and differences. So to directly answer that, The SOHC header fits the DOHC D-series blocks just fine.

Welds look nice. Looks like the tubes line up to the head flange way better than OBX for example. Hard to tell by the pics. If you stick your finger in the tubes, how is the transition from flange to tube? Is it nice and smooth? Is it tapered? Is there a rough edge?
All are great aside from the #3 runner. The welds were ground down and cleaned up extensively but #3 has a small gap that wasn't filled in. Ill take a pic of it later. Aside from that, I have no complaints. Does anyone need a measurement or have any other questions I can answer with this header off the car, since it will be on later this afternoon. Please ask now and I'll do my best to answer it.

It had the right part numer? Hopefully it was a fluke and this guys fits better, but I was just saying so people know what has happened.

Yeah it came with a part #, and even a warranty card. And the welds on this are on par with the DC Sports, if not better. I'm about to start putting it on brb. - Darrell
Megan in Long Beach, CA...i thought their warehouse was in Walnut or some ****. Oh well. I remember when i was there at the warehouse i seen 2 headers laying there, both of which had the same part number, and they didnt look the same. Flanges were off, O2 bung not in the exact same spot etc, it was weird. This was their DC sport lookalikes though where they tried to pass off cheap silver coating as ceramic. It seems though that your stainless one looks great. Good luck with it.

Ok, well the install is done. Here's a few pics of the comparison then I'll tell you my thoughts on the header vs my old DC Sports.
This is the old DCs and how they sat inside the engine bay.
As you can see, they've taken the wear and tear of an everyday streetcar.
In this pic you can see the small differences between teh two headers. It may look like the runners are alot smaller on the Megan Racing header, but it is just extreme carbon buildup on the DCs. They are actually almost identical. Infact I noticed the gaskets were spaced exactly the same. So in other words, the Megan is a damn near copy for the DC, aside from the 2 o2 bungs and the 02 bung locations.
This shows the dp differences. I was VERY surprised at the quality of the Megan Racing dp, the collectors were grinded and polished with great quality. The DC was so carbon filled I didn't see a pont in taking an inside pic, considering you wouldn't see ****.
The new DP sits much higher off the ground, giving those of us whome are sitting very low some much needed ground clearance for the speed bumps. I would say there's 1 - 1.5" height diff between the DC and the Megan. A definite plus for all the low ppl.
And here it is installed w/o the 02 sensor at the moment, I had to order it and it'd be here in an hour. Its kind of hard to tell, but the Megan header is actually a big thicker than the DC. What I mean is it will sit closer to the radiator, so for those of you with AC's still, I would not consider this header to be AC friendly. Due to the fact I used to have AC and the DC was right on the fan housing, and this header sits closer to the radiator. Also sits much higher off the ground than the DC but does not cause mounting issues.
Well, what do I personally think of this header? Pro's : Stainless Steel, Very good quality, very affordable($173.93 shipped), Very easy to install with its 2 piece design, fits great with no needed fabrication.
Cons : Is not CARB legal, now in California, the police are ****'s when it comes to keeping anything under the hood or on the car legal. This would be a huge reason to spend the extra money and get yourself a DC sports header. They are legal if you buy for your engine. This header sits closer to the radiator so those of us with ACs will have to find a slim fan or simply lose the AC(yeah right, its summer..), and the quality of the gaskets is horrible. Plain and simple junk, spend the extra money and get some nice OEM gaskets and you will have one damn good header on your hands.
Power increase? Well I have only the butt dyno to follow and It actually felt a bit better. But this of course was driving at operating temp with no o2. It seems to have moved my power band lower a bit which is fine by me. And my DC's downpipe leaked like a motha so there is definitely a difference in noise. The exhaust is much quieter, sounds a bit deeper. I was expecting it to be raspy or 'bee-like' but its fine.
Overally I give this product an 8/10 Rating. I highly recommend this header to those of us on a budget looking for something economical and affordable. Thx for reading, - Darrell
If a Mod could please rename the title and take out the 'Review -' So people searching might have an easier time finding this post that'd be great. Thx again

Honestly I should have, and I should have tapered the runners but I didn't have the time. I have to leave for work @ 3, and I still have to finish doing some things around the house. But I would recommend taking the time to taper and possibly match the runners if your using a DOHCZC. - Darell
