Default Smoke in high rpm!!! HELP! B18C1

My car is smoking in high rpm. I thought it might be my rings. compression test results came out 170 across all 4. Is that stock? bad? too low? Why is it smoking real bad in high rpm?

Be more specific.. What color is the smoke?

Do you use alot of oil?

Could be rings, could be valve seals, could be running rich.

If its only at high RPMs and the smoke is blue. Then I would guess the valve seals. But I would definately do a leakdown test.

Oh yeah, I forgot to add that a bad PCV valve could cause this as well.

Ture true true - under high loads (high rpm) the engines are designed to use a "little" oil to protect the internals of the engine.

i just said this as an assessment, he really didn't yield enough information. don't really know how much smoke is there?

only mods i have on it is skunk2 manifold, dc 41 headers, aem v2, chipped out p30. 100000k on the motor.

sorry charlie. blue smoke means oil i think. and if it's "clouds of smoke" when you hit VTEC then, no, that's not normal.

Well 100000 miles and high revs will do that generally speaking.

What weight oil is in the motor? and how old is the oil? Ive been around plenty b18c's that throw smoke at high rpms and thats more or less normal.

Perhaps get a valve adjustment done as well.

BTW if its a really big cloud of blue smoke why is it that you need someone else to check the color? The comp check sounds great...just check those other things and you should be golden.

Yeah actually they dont, I regularly rape on mine with a chipped ECU and it NEVER smokes.

How long ago did it start doing this? My guess is that your problem lies in the head, I would deffinatly have a leak down test preformed though.

Did you do your test at WOT? Cause that could be the difference.

Now dont go jumping down my throat for saying this (unless its super witty, then Ill put it in my Sig.)

But wouldnt new valve seals cure oil burning on start-up more so than high rpm?

This is true i replaced pcv valve n it blows a lot less in my d16y8 n my buddys lsv too plus i ran line into coke bottle for makeshift catch can mine was stuck open they pop out easy but idk bout all motors mine was above oil filter so was easier done when changin oil since its bout 2 inches above filter and has to be done from bottom unless u have smedium hands lol but pop ur pcv valve out and do shake test if no noise or very little its done mine had lil noise but i could blow through both sides so it was constantly dumpin blow by back to intake mani. So instead of that i bought a set of vacuum caps from AutoZone n placed two on intake where line was did 2 jus for precaution jus put on one then make next ome fit over also done it to cold air intake part too that goes to valve cover n put filter on valve cover now its bout half as bad still does at high rpm jus not as bad but as far as smoke colors if its not coming from exhaust its tranny if its blue/grey its oil in combustion chamber burning. If black its rich n mines black now so i think im rich or have some plug/wire/distributor. If its a white/grey then its coolant in combustion chamber ...anyways most hondas do in high rpms mine does st 5600 when vtec kicks so think im not burning all my fuel. Pcv valve is like 3 bucks give or take your area and if stuck open will constantly blow oil and any blow by back to intake mani if stuck closed can cause more probs like high pressure causing seal or other damage def worth a try there but i dont want oil or anything besides fuel in my intake mani so i made homeade catch can 2 zip ties n 20oz coke bottle and have ran 3 or more months with only a small amount in bottom jus if u do so make sure u dont put hose to bottom of bottle cause if it pukes enough and rises above line it cant spit any more and causes too much pressure so i cut hole in lid and my hose barely goes in bottle also put couple small pin holes around top near lid jus to keep pressure down and its made a big dif i dont have to put in oil nowhere as much as b4 so was dec worth a few bucks n a few mins but could be other stuff as well start small wit pcv then move to next cheaper thing save expensive stuff for last could be valves rings or even vtec solenoid which is not expensive either thats my next attempt b.c its only bout 15$ jus start simple n move up n feel cree to email me or message back im doin solenoid in a week hopefully if thats not it then its rich n ill have to do plugs wires n dist. Good luck tho maybe you fig it out by now or not idk if so lmk what u done if not maybe we fig out together but it is normal for a higher mileage vtec especially to do so even non vtec but especially vtec so jus gotta find the bugs if were rings would smoke always jus about if coolant than u should notice water in oil or oil in water if rich prolly not enough fire to burn all fuel so leaving rest a black cloud at worst a head job but def try simple first n lmk or if u fixed already lmk what u done so i can skip stuff i dont need lol

Did you ever find out the problem? I have the same issue blue smoke after vtec. Thought it was my rings but its not. Changed pcv valve also and was running rich changed o2 sensors and plugs. Current oilchange. Im wondering if something happens in vtec crossover that lets oil slip thru or if there is just oil that needs burned off due to the pcv being bad? Motor is d15bvtec
