Default I could be hallucinating, but this made my car quieter. ?

Hey guys,

I bought this stuff a while ago to protect various bits of my car from heat.

http://www.ioportracing.com/Me...e=MDI
Longacre Ceramic Insulation
"Super insulating ½" thick ceramic fiber with heavy gauge aluminum foil bonded to one side. Stops heat dead! Wrap around headers, insulate firewall, many other uses to help keep the driver cool. Cut to shape with strong scissors or shears. Wear gloves and respirator when cutting or installing. 48" x 18" x 1/2""

It's ceramic (think fiberglass) insulation for wrapping around headers, etc. I wrapped my downpipe all the way back to my test pipe, to keep some of the heat away from my oil pan.

Anyhow, I start it up this morning and it sounds 'different'. Perhaps, more muffled.

I 'suppose' that pipe might be acting like a resonator, a little, since the walls of it are a bit more acoustically dead. Seems far fetched.

Oh well, hopefully it helps with the oil temps! This stuff is THICK!! I think I could take a torch to one side and not feel the heat on the other side.

I also managed to snake some of this stuff between my dipstick and manifold/turbo. Hopefully that keeps my dipsticks from burning. If not, I have a backup plan (coathanger to hold the dipstick in the t00b.)

-Chris

I don't see why it wouldn't help keep it quieter

!= placebo

Chris, my new dipstick is lasting quite well... I have pushed it away from the turbo manifold a bit and have no ill effects since then.....

But I don't track my itr anymore, so I'm sure that helps a bit.....

Or it would mean you're going deaf, not hallucinating.

That is very very likely too.
