>>> Need Help Buying My Teg <<<
I know someone selling a 99 ls teg that I was planning on buying. I did a carfax on it and found out that the car was stolen about 2 years ago (now salvage titled) and they stole the engine, tranny, etc. So, since they don't have the paperwork for the new motor, how will I be able to know how many miles are actually on the motor? They could of just changed the gauge cluster and set it at whatever they want to set it at right? When the motor was stolen, the owner may have put in a 94 motor with like 100k miles on it right (its says 85k miles on the odometer right now)? The person I am buying the car from right now said that it was the owner before them that did all the work not her. I don't want to be buying a lemon so is there any way of getting some kind of information? She offered a fairly good price ($3000) for it but I don't want to be spending that money on a car that will break down soon. Any advice... TIA
well, the motor she put in there must be a 96+ since the obd2. 3k is dumb cheap for your information. show me the link or whatever. i would seriously look into it since i am in the bay area.
The thing is I am not trying to help her sell it... my whole point was if people can give me advice to see if I should buy it or not. That'll be pretty messed up if your intentions are to tell me its not worth it and then you go behind my back and buy it
Anyone have some real advice or input on this? Thanks!

somebody was 0wned by reading again..
like i said in your other thread, it just seems reallly sketch..you never know about problems down the line..but if the frame looks straight and everything else is in tact you could always pick it up and rebuild the motor later down the line

If it was legitimately passing smog it should theoretically be a 99 motor. You can't put an older motor in a car and pass legally in CA. You can tell the age of the tranny and motor by the VIN sticker (which existed in 99). You can also tell by the serial # below the block code. If it starts with a 1 it is a 94, 2=95, 3=96, 4=97, 5=98, 6=99, and so on.
