Noisey Omni coilovers and a leak in the rear...need some help
I installed my Omni street coilovers on my EK civic yesterday. It sounds like something is loose. It clunks when I hit sharp bumps and cracks in the road. The rear sounds worse than the front. I tightened every bolt to spec. And I tightened the top 19mm bolt about 5/8" down the shaft. Does this need to go farther? It felt pretty damn tight. Also, my rear passenger side coilover has water leaking from the pillow mount area into my trunk. Its not a huge amount, just enought to get the trunk liner damp. The rear drivers side has trace amounts of water sitting on the pillow mount. What does this mean? I read in another post to jack up your car on the control arm under the shock, until it lifts off of the jackstand, and then torque all the bolts. Would this maybe help? I'm also thinking it could be worn bushings or maybe my springs arent preloaded enough. I don't think its an issue with preload, but I dunno. It does ride pretty nice though. Corners well and is a pretty comfortable ride. Much better then my KYB AGX + Tein S-tech combo. Which by the way, I installed those springs and shocks my self as well, and had no problem like I am having with my Omnis. It just sounds horrible over most bumps. Any input on this matter would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I was going to ask this same question myself. The rear sounds like hell going over cracks and seams in the road (not over smooth bumps though). I know that I torqued everything down to spec. I have no leaks though. I am just assuming that it's the difference between what I have installed now, compared to my old setup (and the fact that I'm running 40 series tires).
for the leaking, sounds like the omni is leaking internal fluid, which is a bad, bad thing. For the sound in the rear, that has to do with the spring rate and the weight distribution of the car. Honda's are front heavy which helps absorb the road fluctuations better, also the spring rate is higher in the rear to help with body roll and help prevent understeer... but yeah, sounds fucked up.
Last I checked, nobody fills their shocks with water, so if the leak is indeed water, its not coming from the shock.
Omni's spring rates, like many others, are softer in the rear in both the "Street" and "Sport" setups, and a softer rear spring rate contributes to more understeer, not less.

I know that the leaking is water. Something seems to not be sealed right between the strut tower of my car and the top mount of the coilover.

Totally depends on the car's setup my man
<--- Running softer springs in the rear and having next to no issues with understeer.

Aaagh, I should slap myself for saying that
You are 100% right, my brain has been fried thinking about my own car and its setup lately.

actually when i dynoed shocks for stock car teams some teams filled shocks with with water. it's just hard on the seals, and cavitation can take place at high
piston speeds. as for the sound i know it sucks but it's best to check everything again just to make 1000% sure the noise from the coilsovers and not you.

I would imagine oil boils at a higher temperature than water, and maybe has less resistance to bubbling/getting air in the system?
I have a set of omnis that i had on my 00 hatch before i got my 00 coupe and put them on the coupe. While on the hatch they were very noisy over small bumps (sounded like something was loose) but on the coupe they don't make any noise. As for the water, stock rear top mounts have a rubber seal which prevents water from seaping into the car, omnis have a different shaped mount which this rubber seal does not fit on, so that is most likely where the water is coming from. i put a small bead of silicone around the mount which sofar has held up. anyways hope any of this info helps...
I got the omni full coilover on my civic eg coupe and each time i pass on a little crack , i hear a sound from the back of the car too...
Everything its fine exept this anoying sound
