Howdy!

This is my tutorial on how to install power windows in a CRX utilizing the JDM power window switches and the SPAL power window kit.

The diagram attached shows how I did it. You dont necessarily have to do it my way, but this method worked out fine for me.

Here are the items I bought to do this whole project:

- SPAL power window kit
- JDM door panels
- JDM power window switches w/ the wire harness
- Relay w/ 5 pins (not sure what brand, it was free from this audio store)
- Automotive wire from Radio Shack
- Soldering equipment
- Solder iron
- Solder
- Quick disconnect connectors
- Spade terminals connectors
- Heat-shrink tubing

The drivers side was the side I installed first because the power window switch had only 5 wires. Those wires are:

- Blue w/ yellow
- Blue w/ green
- Blue w/ red
- Blue w/ white
- Blue w/ black

Power window wiring (Drivers' side)

Blue w/ yellow = grounded
Blue w/ green = grounded
Blue w/ red was attached to the red wire coming out of the SPAL motor
Blue w/ white was attached to the black wire coming out of the SPAL motor
Blue w/ black was attached to pin #87 in the relay

Relay wiring

Now for the relay wiring portion:

#85 = grounded
#30 runs straight to the battery
#87 gets attached to the blue w/ black wire (drivers' side) and the white w/ yellow wire (pass. side). So you have to split the wire coming out of the relay to go into those two wires.
#86 goes into the #3 fuse slot in the fues box. The reason why this was done is so that the windows can only be opened when there's a key in the ignition.

Power window wiring (Passengers' side)

Red w/ yellow was attached to the black wire coming out of the SPAL motor
Red w/ blue was attached to the red wire coming out of the SPAL motor
White w/ yellow gets attached to #87 out of the relay
Black = ground

The JDM master power window switch is on my passenger side and it has the ability to control the other window but I chose not to do that. I just want the windows to go down.

The box that says "Power window switch" is the drivers' side switch. I did that side first. And if you buy the JDM window switches, you'll see that it has 5 wires. And you can see those in my professionally done diagram.

I absolutley DESPISE wiring and try to avoid doing any wiring. But I refuse to bring it to a shop and pay someone to do this. It looks so simple until I looked @ the wiring diagram. So I went to the CRX Owners Club and asked Louie B. for help. It took me two weeks of communicationg on that board. But well worth the wait.

dont you need one motor for each side? im a little confused on that.

 

Yes, my bad. This is my first tutorial and I apologize if it is not 100% accurate.

The SPAL kit comes w/ two motors, one for the drivers' side and one for the passengers' side.

The black wire out of the SPAL motor gets attached to the red w/ yellow wire out of the window switch.

The red wire gets attached to the red w/ blue wire out of the window switch.

The white w/ yellow gets attached to #87 wire, and #87 is coming out of the relay.

And black is ground.

 

Pisetup;

If you happen to know, could you please state what pins 1 through 5 are on the fuse block.

There are other places on the fuse box to plug into that will only give power when the key is on. The under dash fuse box has 5 "outputs" shown in the picture below. One of them is 12v at all times (#5), one is 12v with the parking lights on (#2), one is 12v when the key is on (#3, this is the one you need), and I forget what the other 2 do.

You can try plugging directly into #3 but I'm a little worried that that output won't be able to handle the current load of the window motors. If you want to run through a relay you can run the #3 of the fuse box to #85 of the relay, #86 of the relay to a ground, #87 of the relay to your current power source, and #30 to your switches.</TD></TR></TABLE>

I just wanna make sure I understand this right,which side are your switches on? You can roll both windows down from the drivers side right?

He has the JDM "right hand drive" switches, one switch on our driver's side, 2 on the passenger.

With the way he's wiring it you'll just have one switch on each side working it's own window so you'll still have to reach across to open tha pass window. the 2nd switch on the pass side is left dead.

Almost all hondas have those outputs on their fuseboxes and it's an easy shortcut for adding an aftermarket keyless entry. you have your constant, switched, and light flash right there. You just need lock wires and door pin and you're done Not too good for security though, real easy for someone to reach down and unplug the alarm.

There's a bunch of other wires on the master power window switch. I would PM Louie B. and ask him 21 questions.

I haven't seen the switches in person but I've been told the JDM switches can't be swapped from one side to the other.

I think you can get some EDM or CDM switches though.

 

I tried looking for the EDM switches but to no avail.

 

heh, power windows beats the manual windows... only wish i understood wires and electronics to know wtf im even looking at in that diagram. ud have go down to the basic basics lvl of electronics to teach me how to do that lol

but ya, doing it urself beats the damn labor fees at shops

 

those, places that are labeled, 1-5 on the fuse, panel, what are they used for. explain?

I'm not sure what Honda meant for them to be there for other than to be nice and give us a simple place to tap into for aftermarket accesories. I've never seen them being used for anything factory and as I said earlier (or was that in another thread?) Almost all Hondas have them.

 

so its a straight 12v power? do they all come on with the ignition??
