ebay turbo kit
hey, just wanted to know why those turbo kits on ebay are so cheap. Look at this one. You can get all of this for 1000.00. and He only wants $55 for shipping. It comes with literally everything, even the pullys and cam gears! why is the price so cheap?
well guess fuel managment will be a different story, but for the price cmon its a deal. What kind of problems should i be looking at that i am going to run into. IF i get this kit theres a lot of things that i still have to get. but for a grand its good
its not a brand name, so you are not paying for that. Fitment could be poor, like a lot of things on e-bay. The pulleys and cam gears are pretty cheap off e-bay anyways, belts are only about $5ea from any auto parts store.
Does anyone think it could be a fake Garrett turbo??

ok the only actualy turbo manufactured in usa is greddy, garret, and turbonetics. Iv never heard of or seen a fake turbo or anything liek dat i dunno seems like a good buy. i see the manifold cracking soon though
looks like a ssautochrome turbo kit........if you get a week out of the turbo and manifold thats pretty good. they are very poor quality and the turbo is NOT a garret turbo.
spend the extra cash for a "little" better setup like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...&rd=1
the manifold might be pretty much the same but atleast you get a turbonetics turbocharger and wastegate and a nice sized bar and plate intercooler.
if you search around in the forced induction forum you will see how bad ssautochrome really is.....

i believe that is the new ssautochrome manifold correct? If you were still interested in this kit, you would have to take precautions with it and brace it. As for the turbo, Im a little skeptical to purchase a no named ebay turbo. I heard a story of one guy who, barely drove his car down the street, and the turbo crapped out on him. Imo i would opt for something with better quality

I have considered going this route, simply because you can get the same setup even cheaper from the d-series kits, although I am opting out for a better kit I found for $2000 from H-T itself:

Now, if you want that e-bay kit, you already know you don't want the manifold. They crack way too easy. There are a few other parts I would be skeptical about, but if you definitely want to go this route and try to pick out the "good" parts, then look for a SOHC kit (like a civic turbo kit) for $850, $900, crap the manifold, keep the turbo and what you want and throw it all together.
I just still believe that there is one saying that holds true, especially w/ FI: "You get what you pay for".

well im not gonna say its a bad deal but like others have said fitments could be wrong...and turbo could be remanufactured...plus if you buy it and something goes wrong or you dont like something in the long run..well you just lost 1k towards your ultamite goal...my suggestion is do it right even if it takes you longer than you want...get the right parts the first time...happy shopping
