ECU Removal as theft prevention question
taking out the ecu is not the best idea unless you are really worried. the ecu learns info about the car as you drive and if you disconnect it it will reset and will have to relearn everything, but to answer your question my ecu is just laying on the passenger side floor and doesnt bother me at all
Mine is unbolted in the glove-box. I've actually foamed the interior of the glovebox so that it won't rattle around...no problems (and my car is a damned rattle-box with the race-durometer motor mounts and stiff as hell springs)
I do see the re-learning problem though...I've noticed it. But I'll be doing this or something similar until I get a better security setup.

one idea is to use a small relay to cut the signal from an ECU wire, say to the fuel pump or some other signal like that. hide the relay well, and either hook it up to an alarm output or some hidden switch (for example, if you removed your cruise control, make it so the relay only actives when the main cruise on/off switch is "on")
Just some ideas
