Need pic of Susp. Techniques rear sway bar hardware installed on CRX!
Would someone take and post a pic of the rear hardware that connects the Suspension Techniques rear sway bar on a CRX/EF to the rear LCA? I bought this bar many years ago but never installed it as I was not thrilled with how it mounted to the rear shock bottom. Never got around to reworking it but now I need to use it this week on the racecar.
Now I can't find the instructions or see how this bracket will fit an '88 stamped LCA. Their site has nearly no info but it does still list this application for 88-91 so it should fit my car. A pic would be appreciated, from an '88 would be best but beggars can't be choosers.

Yeah, if someone has a pic...that would be awesome. I have been second guessing my installation since last season.....
is this the 22mm adjustable bar? I just installed one of these on an '89. gimme a few minutes..
its dark out, so I did my best. had to lie on the ground and snap these shots, so I hope they are clean enough for you.
first shot is of the rear bracket, attaches to the tow hook locations.
Next is the driver's side end link. You have to knock off the square bolt that is tack welded on the koni fork to install the ST "L" plate. then you install the spherical endlinks as shown.
hope this helps.

Thanks fopr the pic and I got the instructions from Jeff too. I am still no seeing how this is going to fit an '88 LCA and eye style shock mount. The clivice bottom mount of the '89-91 seems alright but on the '88 the bracket would mount to the LCA itself and it has a lot of curvature to it.
I sent you a couple of pics. I had totally forgotten that I ended up welding the bracket to the LCA b/c there was not a good spot to mount it to on the'88. It has been about 5 years since I installed it...I wish I would heve thought of that sooner...

I'll go snap a few pics.

Okay, it's dark out and the car is on the trailer so this is the best I could get. I hope they help:

Mount it in the same place as the 89-91, but you'll need to add a few spacers between the link mount plate and the recessed hole on the LCA.So what you will have it the welded nut on the LCA, the stamped part of the LCS, the lower shock eye, the other side of the stamped part of the LCA, a couple spacers to fill the void between the stamped part of the LCA and the endlink mount, the endlink mount itself, and thenthe lower shock bolt (you'll need a longer one of these). If you select the thickness of the spacers correctly, you'll end up with just a bit of crush of the endlink mount into the recess on the LCA, providing a good solid retention of the endlink mount, preventing it from twisting withe the forces form the endlink.
Hope this is clear enough. I used to have it this way on my car. Now I have bling billet aluminum ITR style LCAs from Function7, and they're flat where the shock bolt goes through. I had to drill an extra hole, and throw another bolt in there to keep the endlink bracket from twisting.
Travis' setup will work if you have the optional mount kit for the 88 Civic/CRX with the eye mounted rear shocks.

Huh...I never knew that they made an optional mounting kit for the '88s. That might have been a little easier that what I ended up doing. It would have been nice if they would have mentioned that in the instruction sheet for "1988-1991 Honda CRX/ Civic Rear Anti-Swaybar"
the previous owner of the 88 crx i drove made it work interestingly.
from what i remember, he got a smaller size bolt and nut and just put it thru the lca and thru the welded nut to the bracket. the welded lca nut actually acted as the spacer needed. i'm sure you could also drill out the nut to enlarge it and uses the appropriately sized bolt, in a longer length, w/ a nut to hold it on.

Rats!
Beyond the fact that I would need to fab some control arm mounts to fit the ST bar to my '88 LCAs, the span on the bar is too wide and hits my springs so the bar can't be used at all. I have a set of Koni 2812 units that were built inversted back in 1998 so the spring is on the bottom and the increased diameter precludes the sway bar from fitting. I need to change the shock design and probably go back upright since we now can make longer stroke 2812s than when these were built and we only had formula car length bodies. No sway bar this weekend.

Might it be easier to just update the LCAs to 89-95 and change shocks appropriately? If only for this weekend?

Yes but I like the '88 arms that let me continue to use a traditional spherical bearing shock mount top and bottom however I am not married to this version of these shocks, it is just what I started with so many years ago. I never really cared for the ST bar mount on the shock bolt (shock snob!) although I fully understand why they did it and it gives an option to the guys with the non-Si LCAs.
Ultimately I need to come up with a rear suspension design that incorparates the LCA, shock and adjustable sway bar that fits my final goal. This weekend, I just want to drive the damned car finally!

Take a look at Cheechov's rear bar when you get to redoing things. Pretty trick. And I'm sure he would take good care of you.
You coming to the WC anytime soon?

intrax makes a rear swaybar made to fit like stock. ive never seen or heard it being used so not sure if fitment works exactly like stock. but, non adjustable either. maybe itll work tho.
