Extended Warranty?
Should I get it? I can get the 7 year, 75K one for $970 w/ $0 deductible. You think it is worth it? I will probably keep the car for awhile since it is paid off and I am not really interested in having a car payment again.
Just wondering peoples experience with the extended warranty and if they found it was worth it.
Thanks!

Absolutely worth it. When I bought my 2001 R, I got the 7/100,000 warranty when I bought it. I think I paid roughly $1200 for it. Since then i've gotten 4 new injectors, some clutch repairs, and other misc. services done all for free. I think it may have paid for itself already, and I still have 2 1/2 years left to go on it.

as a dealership tech, i suggest you get this warranty ASAP.
i've done some aftermarket, non-honda warranty jobs for customers before. they usually send out a company rep before the repairs are done.. but they cover EVERYTHING, and they are actually generous with labor.
i had to do a complete rebuild on an 01 civic, rings, valve seals, etc. (oil consumption problem) and it was fully covered. even the machine work to pressure test and surface the head.
the service write got me like 19 hours for it, which is like 5 more than honda would have paid.

I have only intake, header and cat. modified. Oh, and a V-AFC, but I got a harness so I can disconnect if it were an issue.
I am assumming this extended warranty acts the same as the original?

the extended acts like what the company deems as a warranty. i would look at it closer. which company are you getting this from? I know there are a couple of places on the internet that offers this type of warranty...
any links to some well respected companies? im wandering about one myself. does mileage make a diff for getting the warranty or affect the price? mine is still super low

This is an actual Acura Factory Warranty. Works at any dealership. Read the FAQs on the above link for more details.

When I bought my R I asked for the 7/75 and paid 800 for it... Neg with them, worked for me but at the time I also was purchasing a car
It's only worth it if you TRUST the dealer that would be working on your caR, around me I don't...

DO NOT GET EXTENDED WARRANTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was actually getting ready to post something on this.
Man its suck a ******* rip off.
I'm so pissed about my Acura extended warantee that I will probably never buy another acura.
I've submitted 3 different things, and had all 3 rejected. Things that would have been covered under regular warantee.
Examples:
1. My car makes a clicking sound when turning. Sound is coming from the trani. Under normal warantee they would pull it apart and figure it out. Under extended they say because I have a lightweight flywheel that could cause transmision problems, I have to front $800 for them to pull the trani apart and figure out the problem. If they then think it is my flywheel, they keep my money. If its not, I get my money back. Basically theyre stonewalling me.
2. My throwout bearing has gone bad AGAIN. The first time, under regular warantee, they were very cool, gave me a rental car, and fixed the problem. Installed the flywheel at no labor charge at the same time. NOW, with Acura extended warantee, they wont replace it. Now all of a sudden, its a 'wear item'
******* bullshit. I cannot empasize enough how much of a ripoff extended warantee is. If they would fix **** it would be one thing. But when they wont even honor the warantee. WTF!!!!!!
I am going to write a letter to acura and place a formal complaint, and I may also write a letter to the BBB about it.

Well I have had decent results with the dealers around here.
Granted, for serious problems I usually get a second opinion at Basch Acura (not a dealership, full nameis actually Basch Accurate Service). They work on 90% of the NSX's in the area.

wow...the other jond seems to have significant difference of opinion. Sounds like the closer to completely stock the better in most cases.
ps.... jond, take a look at my location

Your first statement.,..
When the dealer told me they would not replace/ rebuild my tranny due to the Comptech FW I asked them to take the time to PROVE that it caused the damage. I told them You can not speculate you have to prove to me beyond any doubt that the FW caused the damage, then I would pay. Guess what they rebuilt the tranny under warranty He told me that it would take too much money and time to prove the FW was the cause...
As for #2... I would get your past receipts and call the regional supervisor and tell him of your situation. I'm sure once he sees that they replaced it under warranty before they should continue to do so.

Even stock I doubt it would be much different.
They just seem like they REALLY dont want to service cars with extended warantees. Like they will do anything not to do it. I'm sure they dont get paid as much from Acura to do the work, but when its so obvious....
Maybe all dealerships arent as bad as mine. My guy always calls acura extended warantee right in front of me though. Maybe hes calling a bogus number. Wouldnt suprise me...

I bought my car from a private person and the only thing I regret it not being able to get an ext. warranty...
I might have been able to if I went ot an acura dealership I'm sure...who knows

Whatever you do get that warranty. If I didn't have my extended warranty I would have been out $5000. Oil pump failed at 80,000 and starved the motor of oil and motor went boom. All I had to do is show them all my oil change receipts and 100% parts and labor was covered. I was put in a rental car and everything. I cant think of the company right now since im passed the warranty but I will try to find out. At first I thought it was an Acura warranty but come to find out it was an aftermarket one.
Do it you'll be glad you did.

Here is a sample Acura extended warranty contract, I suggest people take a read, it says what is not covered, etc. Definately important to read if you own one or are thinking of buying one:

I think the general answer is no, it's not worth it, because of all the different kinds of extended warranties available, the need to read all the fine print and understand it, and the attendant hassles and vagaries associated with actually getting your money if something happens, and proving that whatever happened had nothing to do with any of your performance enhancements and/or driving activities, and because most ITR owners are bitten by track bugs or performance bugs at some point.
However, having said that, I have to say that I did buy a 100,000 mile extended warranty when I bought my '00 ITR in December 1999. I am not even sure whether or not I've used it...the dealer did replace my rear wiper motor while the car was out of Acura warranty, and I was never really sure why I didn't have to pay for it. I never saw any paperwork about it at all.
The horror stories I hear about other extended warranties, however, makes me think this is an unusually easy case.
