Brake-in Period
Hi Guys, some help,
Hey i just got a 2005 RSX Type-S and i have almost 400 miles on it. Anyways, i was on the road today and i was stopped at a stop light. When the light turned green i took off and i shifted at 7000 RPM (maybe more i dont know, but not redline at all) from first to second, and maybe the same from second to third and i think 6000 from third to fourth give or take. I have only done that once in the 400 miles that i have driven and i probably wont do it again. My question is if it hurt my engine at all? Im really worried and i just want you guys to calm me down a little. Im a newbie, sorry. Thanks.

if you drive your car harder of course it wears more parts. but that is what you bought the car for. I recommend driving it under 4k for about 1500 miles.

city driving try to keep it under 3k to 4k for the first 1000miles or so. But if you go on the highway it's best to work every gear in multiple rpms. Don't redline it til you hit a 1000 though, imo. 6 to 7 is about as high as you need.
ive built many motors and many honda motors worked under some very noligable engine builders also (wont name names you wouldnt know_) but if you baby a motor to much you will never get the thing to seat in properly
the first 5 minutes of a motors life is the most crucial its gonna need load i cant stress load enough load makes heat and heat causes expansion witch seats the rings , when you baby it and hold constant rpm ie freeway driving your slowing the seating process, loading the engine such as pulling weight or climbing a mountain pass is some really good ways to brake a motor and get the most power out of it . i like to start a motor run it 10 min and then change the oil then go drive , gasing it and decelerateing up to 5k and using the motor to slow me down , this causes the other side of the rings to seat and brakes the motor in faster . after a 100 miles of this sparatic driving i go for the glory , cause in a 100 miles if it hasnt seated it never will , ever see race engines get babied - well lets put it this way if you were to see the bill for a funny car motor between races you would buy a house at the end of a race day lol, dealerships will tell you to baby it cause they are salesman . when you baby it forever you will build up carbon from blow by and cause detonation and alot more problems witch meant you go to the dealer pay them 100 bucks an hour to install a new motor when it fails at 80k or so , lol i also work for a dealership and know how this works its all bout money . but hey im not profiting off you so i just do my job but thats my 2 cents

I am with racerboy on this one. Dont super baby your motor during break in. That doesnt mean now go to 8k everytime you shift but drive it with some load on it. Break in will decide the rest of your motor's life.
