speed bleeders- do they work?
I'm about to order a set of speed bleeders for my R and was wondering if these things work as advertised or have any of you found problems with using them? looking to do the front and rear brakes plus the clutch slave cyl. thanks
I have them on my R for 5 months no problems. I had them on my old GSR for about 2 years with out any problems. Just watch how many times you loosen and tighten them as they will begin to leak. There is some new sealent stuff you can buy from them also.
Just be careful. Not sure if I am the unlucky one or not or I am doing something wrong. My friend and I both orderred them and put them on our car. His is a prelude SH, which uses the same size of bleeders. 2 out of 4 of mine leaked after bleeding the brakes a few times before and after lapping days while on my friend's car, 1 out of 4 kept leaking too. I am using stock nuts and use pressure bleeder to bleed my brakes now.
could you please elaborate on where/how they are leaking? from the threaded portion or from the end of the fitting? how many times have they been loosened and retightened? have you tried the sealant they sell on their site as a cure to stop the leaks?
i had one that seemed to leak, but i tightened it down a little more and no problems since. Have bled a few times, they're good....although to start over i might have gone with a handpump vacuum, a few autoXers love 'em.
I bought a set and two of them leaked on me. I think it was my fault because they warn you against over-tightening them, so I don't think I got them snug enough. When I went back and checked, I torqued them down further and I was able to get another 1/4 turn after putting some muscle behind it. I think the sealant on the threads makes it harder to tighten than I was expecting.
Anyway, I took them off and now I have a Motive Pressurized Bleeder on the way. I think that is a much better solution anyway.

i would skip on the speedbleeders, i have heard of too many people having trouble with them leaking. I have tried the vacum pump, it didn't work as well as i thought it would. i think pressure bleeding is the way to go. i just ordered one from http://www.motiveproducts.com it was only $50. it hooks right up to the brake fluid canister on top of the master cylinder, so there is no need to keep refilling it with brake fluid after you bleed each caliper. thats my $.02

I've had no problems.. pay close attention to how tight you're supposed to get them.. Not very tight.. Don't overtighten.. that is what everybody does wrong, and that's why they have problems.. Read the directions.
hmmm.. that pressure bleeder sure is interesting. let us know how it works. looks like a better solution and less expensive in the long run if you're gonna do more than one car.
