Default can vtec stay on all the time if i hook it to a flip switch

right now ive got the solenoid hook to a press button. Could i just use a flip switch. and turn it on before a run . or does it have to cut its self off

if that doesnt work
is it possible to hook it up to the pm6 si ecu and get the ecu to turn it on and off

DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT mess around with your VTEC crossover point. Honda didn't program it to come on at a certain RPM for their own health. If you lower your VTEC point or keep it on ALL the time, you WILL stress out your valvetrain, wear them out quicker, have shitty gas mileage, and a shitty running car.

Leave the VTEC crossover ALONE.

Honda does not recommend you doing that. Ford does though.

You could, but you will decrease your performance. Honda spent alot of R&D time to come up with the most efficient point for the crossover. Of course, there's always the possibility that it could be improved slightly with a VAFC and tuning, but not with your button or switch. You're not helping yourself any by doing it.

Why would you want Vtech on all the time? You do understand exactly how the system works yes? At low rpm's you wouldn't want your cam in vtech mode. Kick in earlier, maybe, but not all the time.

Sure, if you want to lose . . .

No, because the PM6 doesn't have any provisions for VTEC. What engine do you have?

And how did you figure out where to set the engagement point? If you say anything other than "studying dyno plots," then you're wrong.

isn't the point of v-tec to have cams that work well at low rpm's and then cams that work well at high rpm's? so if you only had your high rpm cam's running all the time, you would actually be hurting your performance?

It's not unsafe - but it isn't optimal either unless it has been dyno tuned for the best proven VTEC engagement point.

It's also retarded to run a VTEC engine without a proper VTEC ECU.

As you probably already know, DO NOT ******* ENGAGE VTEC BELOW 4400 RPM WITHOUT ANY TYPE OF TUNING; it's only going to hurt your engine and you'll see no performance gain. Vtec (Variable valve timing and electronic control) engages to open larger lobes on the camshaft to allow for deeper breathing (valve lift) supplying the engine with more oxygen as the RPM band deems it fit. You will not need it to engage any sooner as the deeper breathing is not neccessary- this concept was specifically engineered for higher rpms and I've never seen it "crack" before 4400 with significant gains. I suggest you buy a P28, P29, or P30 ecu from ebay with a skunk2 chip. You'll notice significant increases with their programming and from there you'll be able to learn and research how these EPROM chips work and control your computer and maybe some day you'll start tuning Uberdata. Or, you could buy a VAFC controller and start from there.

Can you? Yes

Should you? No

Don't be stupid and **** with your VTEC unless you've spent many hours on the dyno trying to figure out what would help you the most. And I promise VTEC being on 100% of the time WILL NEVER give you best results.

you should do a search for this on ht... there are a lot of threads about why not to use a p72 on a b16. I don't get why people automatically assume that running a gsr ecu will make their b16 faster because vtec engages sooner???
