Default Need advice on refinishing a wheel

I just got a set of BBS ra's and I'm trying to refinish/polish the lips. 3 of the wheels I may leave alone, but 1 of them has pretty bad clearcoat damage on the lip. I taped off the wheel, and used aircraft stripper on the lip. It took the clear coat off, but there are still blackish marks in the lip. They do go away after ALOT of sanding, but after about 3 hrs, I'm only 1/4 of the way done with 1 lip. I'm currently using 400 grit for the initial sanding, then stepping down (in increments) to 2000. Can I use a higher grit paper to sand away faster, or am I at my limit? Is there any sort of dremel/die grinder attatchement which I could use for sanding?? I've read a bunch of threads on polishing, etc, but haven't seen anyone with this problem...

*Edit...pix as of 2/28:
Wheel with bad lip....you can see the crap I have to sand out:

One wheel with refinished lip (on left) next to unfinished wheel on right...you can kinda see the difference in the pic. In person is much more noticeable:

The only wheel I've finished so far:

I'd just go invest in a dremel otherwise I can feel my arm aching already just thinking about all that sanding. Good luck and I like the rims.

I've got a dremel...actually 3 of them lol....
My main concern is that I don't use too high of a grit sandpaper for the initial sanding, or does it matter? I guess thats all I was trying to ask. If I use a higher grit I know It would go alot faster...

Maybe I'll try that...you can hold the sandpaper for me

Added some pix today (2/28). I'm not getting many answers, so I just took it upon myself to figure it out. I'm just posting the pix to update the progress....

Nope....the wheels are actually 20 yrs old (1985). They were intended for bmw and vw, but were aftermarket.
