Sparco EVO II Installed (pics)
I've had these Sparco EVO seats in my garage for a couple of months and reallly wanted to get them installed ASAP in anticipation of my plan to get some time on the track at least once a month this year. What kept putting me off was the PITA installing Sparco seats seemed to be for most people and the desire to make sure I found some base brackets that lowered, not raised, my seating position. After talking to several people I was all set to bite the bullet and purchase some Sparco brackets and side mounts knowing that I would need to do some drilling/fabrication to make everything match up.
But then RJ stepped in. As luck would have it RJ was selling a pair corbeau brackets and Sparco side mounts that he used for his EVO seats - best part was they had been welded and pre-drilled by a shop so everything would just bolt right in. Too good to be true, right? Almost.
The base brackets and side mounts were perfect, no problems at all there - but the install wasn't as easy as I thought. A couple of the hols in the seat for the side mount were not drilled in the fiberglass exactly right from Sparco, so the hole in the seat and the threads were offset. What is it with Sparco and getting holes in the right place? Anyway, after a little work with my drill it all worked fine. RJ recommended bolting everything together outside the car and then dropping in the seats - sounds good. The passenger seat was a cinch and it wasn't until I had the driver seat sitting in the car on the brackets that I realized I had the driver's position all wrong. So, like a dumbass I tried to adjust the seat in the car thinking it would be easy - wrong. Anyway, after a long struggle with bolts not going in when they really should have, some cursing and then just taking the seat out and doing it the right way everything went in fine.
Mini-review: The seats fit like a glove of course. Getting in and out of the car is a bit more difficult now, but the car is not a daily driver. On a quick spin the biggest thing that stood out to me was how much more connnected to the car I feel. It seems that I can even feel more of what the car is doing through the seat of my pants - and that is a huge bonus when on the track IMO. Seating position is slightly lower than stock - but a quick removal of the seats bottom cushion will drop me down even further. I can't wait to get these out on the track and feel how the work in that environment.
A HUGE thanks to RJ for the brackets and mounts! Not only did he sell them to me for a good price, he was very helpful when I had questions about the install. I know people somethimes think RJ is a hardass around here - but he is a great guy and gets
from me.
Photo disclaimer: The harness you see is used for autox and street racing (J/K
) only. I still have the stock belts for all other purposes. A roll bar/cage is planned for later this year.

That is not the stock wheel - it is the JDM SRS wheel.

Those pics make me miss my R.
I had the same problems with my Sparco Evo -- the screw holes in the seat just aren't perfect.
Also, be careful with them, as over time, they'll tend to want to strip -- one of my screws won't stay in the front right hole. I have to keep tightening it. If I knew that from the beginning, I would have been a lot more careful when bolting the screws in.

These are the EVO2s. I think they started calling them (or at least putting it on the seat) the EVO L.

Do the side of the seats touch the door padding? Also, I found it was tough to get the seats lined up "straight".
I just have the regular EVOs though.

I'm thinking about using my belts from the stock setup (since there black) on adding another point to the harness... bolt it to the ground. use the mail/female connector to the current latch.
If this is a street car ditch the harness all together and use the stock belt. Those 4pt belts are not only uncomfortable, but unsafe and you will probably get a ticket for it if you are pulled over wearing them.
