>>> Crankshaft pulley bolt removal..
I need to replace the pulley sitting behind the crankshaft pulley. The crankshaft pulley bolt is refusing to come loose. My mechanic told me the fact that the car spent most of it's life up north (Pennsylvania) in some salt and snow, apparently corroded the bolt a little and it's refusing to come out. He's broken 4-5 sockets already. He hasn't tried a breaker bar as of yet due to the fact that the car is on stands. He has also tried some PB Blast. Does anyone have any other suggestions?
Here's a photo to give you a better idea.

Now you FL and CA guys know what us Northeast guys deal with every time we try to do anything to our cars. All I can say is, more PB Blaster. Maybe let it soak overnight. Then get out the biggest air impact driver you can find. Eventually, it has to come out.

Metal pipe is your friend... go to a hardward store and find a 5 to 6 ft pipe that would slide over your ratchet snuggly... i would also suggest use craftsman parts, that way you can get instant replacements at Sears. Impact tools is great if you have resources.
get the special honda tool that fits right into the crank pulley...then get a 1"drve 19mm socket, a long homemade breaker bar and a fat *** on the other end of the bar...that **** will come off.
Either use a really long breaker bar...or use a stronger impact gun.
We just had problems removing a crankpulley bolt yesterday with a short breaker bar, and even with an impact gun. Later today I brought the block to work and had one of my mechanics use his bad *** impact gun on the damn thing....came loose like nothing

he hasn't even tried a breaker bar? what kind of mechanic skips the air tools and breaker bar and tries to get a crank bolt off with a ratchet? does he even have air tools?
doesnt sound like someone with whom i would entrust my car.

Wow... your mechanic broke 4 or 5 sockets the regular one or the black ones. The black one is hard to break. if he broke the regular grey sockets he's using the wrong tool in the first place. You should use and impact gun.. it makes it easy. I found out if u go forward and reverse a couple of times that will help break up the rust and hopefully make the bolt come lose. He must be a home mechanic.LOl
When I was doing my timing belt I couldnt get it loose with my imact gun either. I went and bought a new one that has more torque and it came off with ease after that. My car has spent all of its life in WI and has rust on the body to prove it.
Also breaker bar wont do much cause it will end up spinning the motor. Got to lock up the flywheel or get that special Honda tool.

Or you can use a chain wrench around the pulley to keep it from spinning the motor.
Don't worry bro a lot of us went thru the hassle of breaking that bolt loose....but it all turned out to be a case of using the wrong tools
