My g/fs EG hatch has one front striped wheel stud. Whats the best way to remove the stuf without taking the car to a shop?

 

Remove the hub assembly. But you'll need access to a press.

I say remove the assembly and take it to a shop and have them press it out and press one in. WAY cheaper than having them take the entire thing off. Probably only a few bucks to press one in.

 

i thought you could just beat the stud out with a hammer??...its pressed in through the back...so pounding on the front should pop it out...at least thats they way it is on my turbod laser...

If your stud is just stripped, you can use a cutter to cut the lines again...That I do if the stud is not broken.

 

How would I go about cutting new lines in it?

First off, your not being specific enough. The ease of this job depends on if its a front, or rear stud. If its a rear stud, you can just hammer it straight through the hub and it will fall out. Then just buy a new one and set it in the hole. Put a bunch of washers on the wheel side of the hub (enough to keep the stud from bottoming out inside the lug), and use a lug nut to press (technically pull) the stud through until it's fully seated. Then your done.

If its a front hub, you cannot just hammer it out. The dust sheild is too close, and it will hit. The best way to get this job done is to rent a hub puller at autozone, and just remove the hub from the car. You will also need to rent a 32mm socket, to remove the hub nut (and buy a new hub nut since you shouldn't reuse the old one). Also buy a breaker bar to remove the hub nut. You may even need to add a pipe (I use my jack handle) onto the end of your breaker bar. Hub Nuts take 135 lb/ft to put on, and a whole lot more to remove. Then your looking at the same procedure as shown above. Make sure you "stake down" your new hub nut when your all done.

 

i wished i could find a step by step instuctions on how to do this. i want extended studs real bad

 

its a bitch to replace all the studs u have to take apart your hub and buy a new wheel bearings. i broke one off on my car, and all i have to do was take off the rotor, cut a little section of the front brake dust cover out, about 1.5 inches, and then hammard it out,

and then sanded down half of the top stud that goes behind the rotor... and sits right next to the hub,(the reason i sanded it down was to fit it in the whole without havening to take the hub apart and buy a new bearing.
