Too broad of a question. what specifically are you trying to compare? There is a lot between the two. What the car's mission is, goals, response, etc.. It's really not that simple..

Jeff are you saying just the plain jane GT35R on the GT3540R walks over the GT3040R?

the GT35R (GT3540R) has a much better turbine-compressor wheel match. the speed lines of the two wheels match much more closely thus reducing slip losses and allowing the turbine to more thoroughly utilize the exhaust gas flow across it at low flow situations like spool up.

because of the greater slip losses of the GT3040R you actually do not gain any spool time, but instead lose spool up response. AT the same time the smaller turbine wheel restricts top end flow.

How many GT35Rs make 15psi before 4,000 rpm?

I am considering going with a GT30 or a GT35, so I would like to know this too.

The answer is none. The 3082R (aka 3040) and the 3076R (aka 3037) are awesome turbos. Jeff Evans is making over 500whp with both turbos and making a HUGE broad powerband.

I just found that to be a very strange comment considering the 3037 is used on the very popular Full-Race Stage 2GT turbo kit.

I am still new to the turbo side of things, and I missed the sarcasm. I plan on about 350whp pump gas, and maybe 400-450whp on race gas, which turbo could do this, and still maintain good spool?

For that power a GT3071R would be perfect for you.

I thought the GT3040R uses the same compressor wheel as a GT35R but uses the GT30R turbine for faster spool that a GT35R?. I just want enough flow to be able to put down about 450whp around 15-16lb.

i would say go with the gt3076r, as long as you dont plan to exceed 525whp. it will spool quicker than the gt35r, it should be able to make 425-450 at around 16psi, depending on what engine setup you have.

Thats exacty what it is. Its technically called the 3082 as it shares the same 82mm compressor wheel on the GT35.

Do we have an estimated spool time of these turbos, I ran a straight T04E Big wheel before .50/.63 and I could get any boost until about 4800rpm and full after 6k. My car much more built now, is a 5500 rpm full boost (for me 15-16psi) seem possible from the GT35R. I basically want to be able to at least be close to it is not at full boost by VTEC engagement.

Appropriate for smaller engine where the GT35/40R feels too big, but the high amount of compressor flow is needed for the desired HP and boost levels. Large T04S style compressor housing with 4.00 inlet and 2.50" outlet. This turbo has a flow capacity of about 600HP.</TD></TR></TABLE>

I always thought the Gt3040r had the GT40 compressor and the GT30 turbine, hence the name. Oh and personally I love this turbo, ever since Steve Andersons SRT4 (which he extracted 540whp on this turbo before his motor gave out).

thats EXACTLY what a 30R (aka 3076R) will do with a conservative tune on a mild B series VTEC setup.

the t3/gt40 has a gt35r compressor section, the gt40r is very different. the gt3040r aka 3082 has a 61mm compressor(82mm exducer), vs the gt40r with the 65mm compressor and the t3/t67 has a 67mm compressor.

gt3040=gt3082, gt35r=gt3540r=gt3582r and they all have the same compressor section.

Did someone say the GT35r will outspool the GT3040r? How so? Havn't we all seen dyno plots that show the GT3040r spools much faster than it's big brother.

gt35r is for you then
most people make about 400-450 with the gt35 on pump gas running about 15 psi and about 600whp with race gas

gt30 is more like mid to upper 300whp on pump gas with 15psi
