If it's Not the Clutch, it's the LSD...so the Dealer Says
Don't you hate it when you go to the dealer with a problem and the problem doesn't want to present itself right when you pull into their service bay? Here's my issue.
a.) My ITR was making a clicking/clunking sound right at the point of engagement on the 1st and 2nd gears. While in neutral, whenver I would push down on the clutch pedal to the point where I felt pressure, I would heard this raspy type of noise.
b.) I got my clutch, t/o bearing, and pressure plate replaced at 16,000 miles under warranty. Sounds were gone.
c.) 2000 miles later, the sounds are back! I take it to the dealership last night and they tell me it's a normal noise that comes from the LSD.
It doesn't make sense because when they replaced my clutch, etc., the sounds went away so how are they going to tell me that the sounds are normal?!
Questions...
1.) Can I get my warranty work done somewhere else other than the dealership?
2.) Does the LSD really make any sounds? If so, in what scenarios and when?
EDIT - As for the raspy noise, the tech said that it's normal also. The sound, he said, is the result of the t/o bearing coming into contact with the pressure plate. He also said that the reason it didn't make the sound before is because there was no dust on the t/o bearing when it was newly installed. Is he BSing me?

Hey,
As you know, I'm in the same boat you are. I've had noises and vibrations for a long time now and I've had the clutch components replaced, and the bearings replaced on the main shaft, but the noises are still there. I would love to be able to take it someplace else, then send Acura the bill, but I don't think it works that way. I think my next step is to contact a regional service manager and have him help me out.
I've gone to several different dealers and had them listen to the sound, and I get a variety of answers, some of which I can't say are right or wrong becasue I dont know the exact workings inside my drive train. One guy said, "That's normal. ITR gears are very agressive, and will make some noise," but i don't buy this one. Does anyone know a good site that shows how a Honda transmission works? I'm not talking howthingswork.com. I want a better explaination than that.
Edit: In my case, I know it's not the LSD, as my noise occurs when the car is out of gear and just sitting there.

what is the raspy noise?
You will hear a slight whir as you press the pedal down because that is the sound
of the release bearing spinning. That is normal.
ITR gears are aggressive? LOL
ITR transmission is same as GSR and LS for the most part.

well, true that the sound wont be there when the bearing is new.
but it shows up quickly and is not necesarily a bad thing.
you'll have to be more descriptive for me to be of any help.
