Default how can u ride your race car sooo low!! ( pics) i need rational explanation!

i was looking and comparing pics fromm spoon and mugen's cars..

..
they really have their car lowdown at max..

i was just wondering how can they run so low without throwing out all the suspension geometry ?
shortter suspension + stiffer + camber adjustments ??? is that the answer ?
i was alsow playing with the roll center and ..if u lower let's say my 97 lude at 3-4 inch form the ground ( so maybe - 5 inches from stock )
u get pretty bad roll center and a lot of camber and toe effects!

PLEASE ENLIGHTEN ME KNOWLEGEABLE ONES!!
aahah

here are the pics :

a lot of the race cars are probally running custom suspension like aftremarket control arms and spindals (sp(its gettiing late and im sleepy) which correct the best geometry, plus all the adjustments, if im wrong someone please correct me

Hey Scott, now we know why they have to run so high in the front. It's to keep the front lip from dragging on the ground under braking

If they are actually running with setups this low, I highly doubt they are running with the stock suspension geometry.

Also, look at the wheels. THEY ARE HUGE.. Will that make it look more "slamed" then what it really is??

Yup. The shell looks like a regular ol' S2000 or Civic, but underneath it doesn't.

You also need to look at fender lip height, in addition to the "lowest point of the car." Just adding some aerodynamic treatment to the front end (a good splitter/spoiler comes to mind) will make the front look much lower, while the fender lip height may not be all that low. The key is to allow the underneath side of the car to generate as little lift as possible, which means limiting or controlling the flow of air under the car. Stiffer springs/shocks keep the body parts off the ground.

This is at least in reference to the pics you posted. Many cars DO change the suspension geometry in unrecognizable ways from stock, which leaves less work for the aerodynamic team (or at least, they need less material )

3 reasons I can think of:

* Big wheels. (those look like 17s)
* High spring rates
* Short body shocks

Those cars appear lower then your avg sreet car becuase the big wheels fill up the fender wells and they are running a bunch of ground effects. Even so .. with high spring rates and right kind of shock, the total suspension travel will be much less then your avg sreet setup. They can run the car much lower, and still get full suspension travel.

Best example I can think of are the non-US touring cars. BTCC, DTM, etc. Those cars are very low to the ground and have almost no body roll. They are also running suspension setups in the many tens of thousands of dollars.

Don't forget the side skirts, front lip and rear diffuser. All will make the car look lower than it is...

also im sure those are magnesium (sp) rims which are light and running just one lug nut, i bet nothing under that car is factory

Comon now, shocks are disposeable. Everyone knows that. The more it hits the bumpstops, the better. If a go-kart doesn't need shocks, why should I?

is that your car ?
eheh
cool EG man

i need to know now..
how did u managed to get a good geometry and good camber/toe settings with that height ?
what are your static settings?
thanks

Not to mention the BTCC and DTM cars run on 19 in. rims. You have to admit it looks pretty cool!

haah
the thing is that SPOON runs on 14 and 15" wheels...
and mugen don't usually go over 16" on racing cars..
even 17" doesn't make the car look that low..
when u look at the body of the car..and u can only see 2-3 inches between the side sills and the ground..that's not cause of the wheels

they run shorter shocks, want as much negative camber as the can get and they don't have to worry about speed bumps or potholes.

You only need as much travel as your going to use. Track cars don't use much suspension, as there aren't many bumps. So you can lower quite a bit (assuming you can adjust your camber and caster back to desired amount).
