96-98 civic headlights hid retrofit, follow the newb as he learns
Parts List:
Gen 3 Hella Ballasts
Phillips D2S 4300k bulbs
BMW E45 3" Bi-Xenon Projectors
Spare 98 Headlights
* Wiring Harness
* Shroud
Bezels
*still needed

these are bi-xenon e45 bmw projectors. they are 3" in diamater.

this is the shield that switches up and down when you hit your high or low beams. basically allows more light to pass when you put your highs on

this is the solenoid that moves your shield up and down depending whether you are on high or low beams

the solenoid uses three wires to accomplish its job, theres a power, a soft ground and a hard ground. the hard ground applies to first burst to open the shield while the soft ground keeps the shield open. gonna need help in determing which is which. so any suggestions would help.

this is a phillips 4300k d2s bulb. it doesn't much of a color beyond white but is the brightest output out there

these are hella gen 3 ballasts, the blue grey plug connects to your wiring harness while the black and red end connects to your bulb and headlights.

complete pic of ballast and bulb
now i have a spare set of headlights and am still waiting on some ebay auctions to go down to get my shroud and bezel. stay tuned for more pics and watch as a total newb learns how to retrofit with the help of honda-tech guru Cjsls.
couple points questions to anyone, i'm not quite familiar with how the stock headlight adjustment system works. is there any way to retain that functionality with this setup?
also, i'm thinking about fiberglassing some of the parts instead of jbweld? or is that not even neccisary if i do it right?

guru?
i just see myself as an "enthusiast" heheh
anyways looks good man....as far as the stock headlamp adjustments go you should still be able to retain them so long as you mount the projector to just the reflector assembly and not the actual housing....i have pics on my site of the 99/00 civic factory h.l. adjustments. im pretty sure they are the same, not sure though.

here's new pics:

3" bezel that fits both bmw and audi projectors, i got it from ebay

shows how it just clips on with no problems

replacement headlights, shitty condition but they'll do while I retrofit my current ones.

standard procedure to break open the lights, uninstall then bake for 215 degrees for ten minutes then pry open. have fun taking out the adjust ment screws, they take forever.

i wanna keep these stock alignment screws

shows what it looks like when you take off the reflector

gonna have to notch about a 1"-1.5" circle around the current opening to make this work and to move the projector back more

shows how it looks with just putting it in there

does anyone know if this wiring harness would work, it seems too simple and i wonder if its safe to use your stock harness.
all other harnesses i've seen connect to the battery in some way as well.

its from hidtech.com

anybody know of anyone selling plug and play wiring harnesses? I don't trust myself to wire this up without frying something.
I'd rather have it done right the first time.

have run into a huge problem making oem looking shrouds for this bitch. i mean the bezels look find but they serve no functional purpose.
the problem is that the shield that moves down to provide high beams makes it not work with typical solutions ie: pvc piping or cutting bowls and what not.
it needs some kind of 3.75" - 3" reducer for this to work. i'm almost wondering if i could use a silicone coupler?
you can see hear what i mean about the clearence inssues with using just a 3" pipe or something.
or i could do it sorta ghetto and cut aluminum flashing to cover the exposed areas so that light won't leak out.
and you may ask, why is he bothering with this. because the whole point of this retro is to get a nice output with minimum glare and having no shroud makes some bad glare.

Do you bough the Custom plug-n-play wire harness for headlamps retrofitted with Bi-xenon HID projectors because I want to know if this kit will work great?
