Going into First
hi, ive searched for this topic but not sure if thats what im lookin for..i have a 94 gsr with about 120,000 miles and ive been having problems going into first while moving. before and after a new clutch its the same thing. i have to be at a complete stop before i could easily move into first. so im wondering if this is how it is for all manual gsrs or is it only me?
thanks for ur replies..

almost all jap car sdo that in first. let the clutch out alittle while ur goin into first that will suck it into gear or just go from rev.... to first. only from a dead stop ofcoarse. and y would u wanna shift into first while moving
well, for me in my da, i need to for tracking the car because u can get raped for not being able to go into first. to tell u the truth, i just rev match the car to go into first and then she goes in perfect. i dont know why some honda's have a lock out feature so to speak, but it is meant to go in, so dont be afraid to rev match and pop her in! my 97 hx, 89 ef, and my 92 gsr all can go into first!

Gotta jump in while the topics here. Not being able to shift into 1st while the car is still moving (no matter how little) is a safety for your transmission. Almost like not being able to put it in reverse.
Now my problem is similar. I have trouble when the car is stopped. Of course i can get around it by going to other gears first or letting the clutch out a bit however it shouldnt be necessary so often. I know the clutch could use a replacing but is there anything else that could give me that kind of trouble? Does the clutch wear even have anything to do with it?

if u've ever read stories about people accidently blowing up their engines because they shifted into 3rd instead of 5th.. it's probably the same reason u cant get into 1st when u are moving... it's a safety thing..
nemesis: i have a clutch that is like 110k miles and my teg is doin the same thing.. cant get into first or reverse while fully stopped.. i usually have to shift into another gear then try first again.. or stomp on the clutch a few times before i even try shifting into first.. sometimes i get irritated and just end up sputtering away from the signal in 2nd gear so everyone doesnt start laying on the horns.. i'm very irritated with it.. but i just deal with it.. it's just part of being an old worn clutch.. just waiting for it to die...
u need to practice mad skillz to get it into 1st while rolling.. if u dont like second.. what about getting shorter gearing?.. then u wont have to deal with shifting into first..

hahaha ok mines not THAT bad but i do just go in 2nd gear sometimes. Never HAD to though. Im guessing that the clutch is the original also, all 105k miles. Thanks for the reply though, i feel better about mine and im gonna drag out the clutch for another 6 months before replacing.
