Stock tires
hey okay I need to new tires. I'm currently running Bridgestone Potenza 730's. I found them on $75 a tire for 205/50/15. Also is the stock size for our car 195/50/15? any other tire suggetions would be great!
Man i'd go with the 205's. You obvisously have a pre 98 itr. As the 98 up had 16's and ran a 225 or 215 i believe. The 205 will fit your rim and you won't rub. But you'll have some more rubber, and we know thats a good thing.
um actually I have an 01 R and it runs stock on 15's.

I was already planning on going with 205's but I wanted to know the tire height. My Speedo is off and now I know why. I was thinking about going with 205/55/15 but I like the way my tires look right now.

umm no. Stock ITR's have 15's and come with 195's. I am running 205 50 15's. they will fit and give you some more rubber on the road.

did the 50 vs. the 55 screw up your speedometer?

get wider wheels like 15x7 + kumho mx. good price tire, not all season but i guess that wont matter in CA. wider street tires don't improve anything without wider wheels.. i noticed much improvement going from 15x6.5 wheel w with 205-50/15 to 15x7 using same exact tire (s-03's).

i'd suggest 195/55-15, don't use 195/50-15 because it won't meet max load requirments and can be unsafe, i read about someone on here blowing up their 195/50-15, and legit tire stores won't sell it to you unless you say it not for your car. 205/55-15 are too large or diameter. so ideal woudl be 195/55-15 and then 205/50-15

205/50 and 195/55 are almost exactly the same height. 195 == millimeters width. 55 = ratio of sidewall to width. 15 == wheel diameter.
You can probably do math. Google calculator can help.

You live in Ca ?
then a high performance tire such as MX or Azenis should be fine for you. If your worried about rain then go with the MX.. slightly better .
If your looking for a tire that will give your car the best feel on the stock rim then spend a few extra dollars and get yourself RE010.
195/55-15 best for stock wheel
205/50-15 wider is better for grip but might loose some crispy handling.
205/55-15 I dunno, not many people bother with it.
any thing else is a waste except for propose built Like 245/45-15 autoX or track...

Max load for S03's in 195/50 are 1047lbs per tire. That's almost 2100lbs of load allowed for the front end alone. With our weight distribution and an average driver you shouldn't see weights much over 1,700-1,800lbs on the front/heaviest end.
The only time you might come close to overloading the tire is with 4 passengers and a crap load of gear.

205 * .50 millimeters = 4.03543307 inches
195 * .55 millimeters = 4.22244094 inches
tire 1 diameter = 4.035 * 2 + 15 = 23.07 inches
tire 2 diameter = 4.222 * 2 + 15 = 23.44 inches
diameter is proportional to circumferance, which we won't calculate today. Instead calculate the % difference in diameter.
(23.44-23.07)/23.44 == .0158
The 205/50 tire will show 1.58% more mileage/speed than stock. That's a 1 MPH difference at 63.4 MPH.

Lots of good tires being recommended here. To summarize the various characteristics of each:
Bridgestone Potenza RE010 - 2.9 cents/mile - terrific handling, excellent performance, very good in the rain (with decent tread depth), expensive to buy (~$130/tire), treadlife pretty good, available in stock size 195/55-15

Yokohama AVS ES100 - 1.2-1.3 cents/mile - decent performance (not as good as the other choices, but still pretty good, and great bang for the buck if you're strapped for cash), great in the rain, inexpensive to buy (~$60/tire), last a long time, available in stock size 195/55-15

Falken Azenis RT-215 (discontinued) - 2.9 cents/mile - excellent performance and grip, not as good as the other tires in rain, inexpensive to buy (~$70/tire), treadlife very short, not available in stock size (only 205/50-15) and not as good on stock wheels as wider wheels

Falken Azenis RT-615 (replaces the RT-215) - 4.0 cents/mile (assuming treadlife is the same as RT-215) - excellent performance and grip, not sure about rain performance (reported to be better than RT-215), moderately expensive to buy (~$97/tire), treadlife may be short, not available in stock size (only 205/50-15).

Bridgestone Potenza S-03 - excellent performance and grip, great in rain, expensive to buy (~$130/tire), last a long time, not available in stock size (only 195/50-15 or 205/50-15)

Kumho MX - very good performance and grip (better than the inexpensive "bang for the buck" tires, not as good as the others listed), somewhat inexpensive to buy ($82/tire), not sure about treadlife or rain performance, not available in stock size (only 205/50-15)

Hankook Ventus R-S2 Z212 - very good performance and grip (better than the ES100, similar to the MX), somewhat inexpensive to buy ($78/tire), not sure about treadlife or rain performance, not available in stock size (only 205/50-15)

Avon Tech M500 - decent performance (similar to the ES100, i.e. great bang for the buck if you're strapped for cash), great in the rain, inexpensive to buy (~$74/tire), available in stock size 195/55-15, not sure about treadlife

Fuzion ZRi - decent performance (similar to the ES100, i.e. great bang for the buck if you're strapped for cash), great in the rain, inexpensive to buy (~$60/tire), available in stock size 195/55-15 (although not currently shown on Tire Rack website), not sure about treadlife

You pays your money, and you takes your choices...
