I broke my shift cable!!!
How in the hell did this happen%*#^@$#&@&!!!! I was shifting hard into 2nd and the shifter just kept coming at me.
Satan says the new one comes as a set with the second cable only, and the pair costs $345!!
I will shoot myself in the face before i do that though........can anyone think of where else to get a shift cable?

I forgot to mention that if you were shifting that hard....maybe you should tone it down a bit........were you using the clutch?
I could imagine the shear force loads on those cables to be very high.... I can't believe you broke it.
Are you sure it is broken, and that the clip did not come off? Or maybe the cotter pin broke and your lonkage came loose. This would have the same effect.

i dont thing you broke the cables i thing the cotter pin came out but it is possible to brake those cables. but i thing the tin cotter pins would break first

no guys, i'm sure. the cable is friggin' broken. when i unbolted the cable from the shifter, i pulled the end of the cable out, and the almost looked like someone cut it. i could shift the car into 1st, 3rd, or 5th (pushing motion) because the end of the cable was pushing the rest of the cable. but then i couldn't take it out of those gears, or pull it into 2,4,R. (pulling motion)
Luckily i found a guy on ebay who is shipping me his for 80 shipped, the whole assembly with both cables. i was happy with that price as compared to the dealer's, so i bought it. The cable had to be rubbing something, because that is some thick ****. i guess all the shifting i've been doing eventually just wore it out. When i install the new one i'm going to make sure that it's not rubbing anything, and hopefully this will make my shifts into 1,3, and 5 more crisp, because it has been feeling really spongy shifting into those gears for the past 8 months. i figured it was the syncros, but maybe it was the cable all along. at least i hope so.
thanks for the help and recommendations guys.

that sucks, my friend thought he did the same thing but like others said he just broke a cotter pin and the clip...so he spent 345 for nothing...lol *should of read ahead* but if anyone esle needs brand new ones...my friend might sell them.
i guess i don't really understand what you are talking about. are you talking about the pin that holds the cable from falling off of the thing that actually shifts the gears on the tranny, or what? Mine broke about 6 inches from the shifter right where the cable starts. I guess you will never be able to see what i'm talking about unless you break it, because it is underneath the cover of the cable. i can see the frayed wires, so i know it's broke.
i paid 80 shipped. but i offered to pay extra for shipping if he would do it over night or 2 day at the most. but the ****** hasn't even contacted me back since he told me he shipped it. i asked for a tracking number yesterday morning but i still haven't heard from him. i may have to pick up one of you guy's cables if this guy turns out to be a scammer. i guess i'll wait and see.
well, i got the new shifter assembly and cables in. luckily my friend has a lift.......because changing the assembly out involves a lot more than you might think.
first i had to unbolt the 4 bolts holding it down in the cab, then i had to take the front bumper off so that i could loosen the intercooler piping so i could get the piping out of my way. then i had some room to work with the linkage. i took the pins out of the linkage where it meets the tranny. then i unbolted the mount that holds the cables in place, and unclamped the cables from the mount. then we lifted the car and pulled the cables down from under the engine. the cables don't go through the firewall......they go under it, and then they squeeze inbetween the exhaust heat shield and the bottom of the floor........which means i had to unbolt the exhaust and heat shield (PIMA!). then i unbolted the two bolts holding the cables in place under the floor, and one bolt holding them in place on the frame.
then we lowered the car and pulled the cables up through the cab. we reversed the whole process to get the new shifter back in. What a bitch. My advice.........shift friendly.

thanks guys.........i'll take a pic of the broken cable when i get a chance and post it. it's quite amazing that cable that thick could break, but i guess the continuous daily use finally got to it. but it feels like i put a new transmission in now. the shifting is soooo smooth.
